Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

    1. Still theoretical, but most likely it'll be new rod and main bearings, new cam (maybe new cam bearings), new lifters, new push rods, new oil pump, new piston rings. Re-using old pistons, con rods, high pressure fuel pump. Cylinders will be honed. Everything will be cleaned before re-assembly...

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

New question today... The cam I chose (BTR Stage II) will require a tune. There's a guy local to me that is well known and has a good reputation. But I'm a little concerned about doing dyno pulls on a freshly rebuilt motor. Should I be? Secondarily, I see that HP Tuners has a 'remote...

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

11mm hex head turned out to be the size.

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

Looks like they are a 12mm Hex head. Can anyone confirm? I was worried that they were a 12-point or something weird.

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

Does anyone know what size the head of the rod bolts are?

    No going back now.

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

Did more tear-down over the weekend. There was an obvious difference between the driver side and passenger side as far as tightness of rocker bolts, head bolts, etc. Leads me to believe that this motor had work done on the driver side before I got it. I purchased the truck in February 2021...

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

So... My motor has to come out due to an AFM lifter failure. At 120K miles, I figure a total rebuild is in order. And if I have to do a rebuild, I'm gonna upgrade a bit. Nothing wild, just a little more pep. Starting to research parts. Anyone got experience with this? 1. Without a doubt...

AFM Lifter Stuck in Lifter Bore

Cam is still in the block. I figure the motor has got to come out. No matter what. Who knows how much metal got spread around in there. And once the motor is out, I can't feature not doing a total rebuild. What a can of worms... I figured that lifter bore could be sleeved, but I wasn't sure.

AFM Lifter Stuck in Lifter Bore

So... I have an AFM lifter jammed in it's bore. Anyone have any tips or tricks on how to get that out? Secondarily, is that lifter bore serviceable? I am assuming it's damaged, or will be damaged by the time the lifter is out of there...

    Another P0300

Wow did I ever jinx myself... Wife took the truck to get groceries, calls me, says it's missing. Throwing P0324 (knock sensor) and P0307 (#7 Misfire). After swapping coils around to see if that was the issue, the P0307 code changed to P0300. Did a compression check on #7. No compression...

    Rear window washer

Finally tracked this down. A connector popped between two hoses under the hood, drivers side, above the wheel well. Super easy fix. I'll try to get a pic of the connector and post it.

    Another P0300

After driving it for a couple of weeks now, changing the motor mount fixed most of my problems. Forced to conclude that it was probably the knock sensor picking up noise from the clunking motor mount. Doesn't tell me why I got the P0300 code, I don't think. I did get the even more dreaded...

    Another P0300

Replaced the drivers side engine mount over the weekend. This is the process I used: A couple of notes from my experience: 1. Take out the steering shaft, just gives you more room to work. 2. Go ahead and cut off the heat shield on the old mount. Again, more room to work, particularly on the...

    Another P0300

So its cold and snowy where I live so I've kinda back-burnered this. But I was thinking... My driver's side motor mount is shot. Could a little bit of clunking of that motor mount trip the knock sensor, causing some of this surging?
