Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

And finally the push rods. Tips look great. Some have some buildup on the rod. Unfortunately I don't know which ones came from where.

Lifters. Aside from the failed AFM lifter pictured previously, there's only a little bit of scoring on the rollers. All rollers ran smooth.

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

Cam. #7 had the failed lifter, but I can't find any damage from that. Cam is oriented with #1 at the top, #8 at the bottom. First picture is 1/2, second is 3/4, third is 5/6, last is 7/8. Had some significant scoring on the second bearing journal (bottom of first pic), and some sporadic light...

Rod Bearings. Some visual wear, but I couldn't really feel any of it.

Piston Rings. Look pretty dirty in this pic, but they were free on the pistons. Probably picked up some of the dirt from the box they were in.

Next up: Main bearings. Not sure why the thrust bearing broke. For the most part these look really good. Only a couple of scratches. There's a few small pits/nicks, but I think that's just from them clanging around in a box.

Gotta do a Rebuild, Gonna Upgrade Too

I was cleaning in the garage last nite and started digging thru the bits and pieces from my rebuild last summer. Here's the oil pump... Nothing too crazy for damage. Little bit of scoring.

    AFM DFM Conundrum

You could also consider lifting the body off the chassis. But that requires a lift that you can occupy for a while while you work on the motor.

    AFM DFM Conundrum

I've done a Gen 4 and am currently in the middle of doing my second Gen 5. The Gen 5's have been overhauls with the AFM deletes, so that's hard to compare. The Gen 4 took me and a friend about 20-25 hours to get thru. There's a lot of stuff to remove before you can get down to the heads and...

    AFM DFM Conundrum

If memory serves, to do a proper mechanical delete, you have to replace the cam. The AFM lobes are different than the non-AFM lobes. That said, Brian Tooley Racing, Texas Speed, and AMS Racing all have kits. Very comparable components and cost.

    Spark plugs

It's extra work, but pull the wheel and fender liner. Then you get excellent access to the #8 plug, not to mention the others on that side.

RTV dabs on Valve Cover Gasket?

I don't know if it's recommended or not, but I can't image you'd hurt anything by adding some silicone in strategic spots. As long as you're not using so much as to get squeeze-out that ends up plugging up your oiling system.

    [SOLVED] Pesky Squeak

Well, the squeak is no more. Changing the CV axle fixed it. The outboard joint on the old axle was kinda sloppy when it was out of the truck. I might take the boot off and inspect further, but it's gonna be so messy... I'll post a pic or two of what ever I find, if I decide to do that.

    [SOLVED] Pesky Squeak

I suppose its possible, but I didn't see anything like a gouge or etc. on the rotor.

    [SOLVED] Pesky Squeak

I read somewhere that you can replace the CV axle with out taking the brakes and bearing hub apart. Is that correct? Also, are both sides the same? Update - Swaybar link and shock had to come out, and both sides are the same.

    [SOLVED] Pesky Squeak

I completely get your sentiment here, but... If the CV joint is the squeaker, I would be adding grease to confirm that it is the problem, then replace it. In the event that it isn't the problem, I want to re-seal the boot.

    [SOLVED] Pesky Squeak

I have been chasing what I thought was a brake squeak on my 2020 Tahoe. But I have eliminated anything directly connected to the brakes. And last nite I replaced the bearing/hub (passenger front). It had a slight grindy-ness to it. And there was grease caked on the back side of the hub...

Minnesota / St Cloud Recommendations for DOD AFM Delete? 2018 Yukon Denali 68K Miles

The last one I did, I got my parts from BTR (Brian Tooley Racing). I bought 90% of what I needed there. But you're going to need some 'odds and ends' that can come from an auto parts store, too. I've used Texas Speed and AMS Racing in the past too. Pick one, call or email them, and work...

Differential damage due to tire tread?

My opinion is that you'll be fine. That's what diffs are for. If you're really worried about it, put the mismatch on the front (I'm assuming you run in 2wd most of the time).
