    Remove and clean battery terminals and posts. Also clean the connection on the positive cable between the two layers. It can be disassembled as shown here.

    Use a long screwdriver and touch each rotating assembly while running i.e. A/C pump, P/S pump, alternator, etc and put your ear to the end of the screwdriver. It acts as a stethoscope of sorts. This can help you narrow down the culprit here. HF sells these too. Mechanic's stethoscope

    Are you sure the dimmer switch isn't engaged? If it is dialed/scrolled all the way up, the dome lights will stay on constantly.

    Check your local junkyards. Swapping the entire llftgate, not just the glass, may be an easier option for you. And welcome from NY. Let's see some pictures of that Tahoe you're looking at.

    When you say “left side” are you referring to driver or passenger side? There is a bracket that the rear of the alternator is mounted to. If that bracket is missing, then that threaded hole has no use.
