    You cannot pull the front shaft on a 05 because it is a open differential T-case, will just sit and spin Think of it as a open diff rear axle and jacking up one wheel You can swap out the t-case for a manual shift with a little modifications for the shift lever and front shaft change

    Not usually, it's not the pump that fails it's a metal U shaped clip, that fits in the backside of the case. The banging causes the clip to break, then the pump wears thru the case there are some good writeups in here Not saying this is your problem, but a popular one...

    Hard to hear over the internet, but a popular failure on the NVG 246-263 trans cases is a pump rub issue that causes a anti wear clip to come loose and wear thru the case Possibe you are hearing that?

    I know Bilstiens have ones that fit and have a module that lets you bypass the A-R without setting codes, Arnott sells them too I hear that Monroe, now makes electronic ones now. not sure if it is a bypass or full A-R

    Be interested to know what trans case you have as most Denalis are self biasing and will not drive rears if front shaft is off...RPO code? If you are able to, as you state, it is probably failing from 'not being driven' and leaves a large rotating mass that fights within itself as stated above
