I didn't want to cut anything so I used a 2x4 and a hammer to move the metal in, just enough for clearance.     I just took a set of 28s off my 15 yukon xl, I was running 295/30r28 tires and I didn't think the ride was that bad. However, since I'm back on the stock 22s until my new 26s come in, you're right, the ride isn't great on bands like this. You don't notice it until you have more tire under you...
