ive owned my tahoe for over a year now, and the drivers side heated seat has never worked. the lights on the switch would turn on for a few seconds, then turn off, then you could hear a relay click everytime you pressed the heated seat buttons again, and it would immediatly shut off. passenger side works perfect, until you hit drivers side then it kicks them both out.
after reading thread upon thread about this, it was narrowed down to a heating element issue. so this past spring, i replaced what i thought would be the most common element to go out, the bottom pad. it looked somewhat burned, or very lightly discolored, as it looked like someone spilled coffee on the bottom pad at one time. well turns out it still didnt solve the issue.
well summer came and went so i didnt fix the problem. now that its starting to get cold at nite here in the midwest i am venturing back into fixing my seat issues.
so i tore into this lastnite, and dug in the the back rest heating element. it was a p.i.t.a to remove the back seat cover. but i got to it, and what i saw completely shocked me. the heating pad burned all the way through, burned the foam of the seat, and foam on the seat cover, but stopped at the leather. i dont have leather discoloration, so i wouldve never known. i believe it had caught on fire at one time, for as burnt and crispy/crunchy everything was.
well i cleaned up all the burn damage, installed new heating element, put everything back together, and now i have heated seats. im very happy that this issue is fixed. so ya, this isnt a completely lost thread, as a very common issue can be fixed rather easily. here is a picture of what i found

like mentioned above seat back heater is about $58. found all over ebay. part number is 641-106. when looking at the picture itll have 2 plugins on it, as the seat back element is kind of the master unit, then sends power to the seat bottom as well.

Is there a write up on changing the elements, it is it self explanatory once the seat is out of the car? I have elements in hand, just haven't seen a write up, can't find a video, it's not in my manual, nothing.

its self explanatory. though for some reason they send those heater pads with hog rings which you cant use on these seats. You need some spray adhesive to keep the pad in the correct spot otherwise it will shift around on you.

Hmm, goofy situation. Be sure you have wires going to the seats in the first place. If so, you may have an issue with the overload circuit which I don't think is very common. If it were me, I would just order one new seat set and try replacing.

I have the same exact issue on my 2007 GMC Yukon. Front row (Back and cushion) doesn't work the rear works fine. The buttons when pressed they stay on forever and the surface never get warm !!! I checked the cushion seat heater mats on both sides and it looks just fine !... one last area that it could be the problem in that Hella module underneath the front driver seat. I need to look into replacing that and see what happens.
