I just purchased a 2009 yukon slt, I am wondering if it is possible to check service records from the past to see what has been done to the vehicle at deakerships. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Carfax and the like will usually list information about this, but it's only as accurate as the information that they're provided. Many people, like myself, prefer to fix things on their own rather than pay someone (especially a dealership). Also, a lot of shops don't sell information to carfax, so just because it doesn't say something doesn't mean it hasn't happened. You can likely have a dealership check your vin for past warranty work, but I'm not sure if they retain info on other repairs or not.

GM has an owner's website that you can sign up for. Once you enter your VIN, you can check the service history. However, much like Carfax, it will only list what has been entered by any previous owners. I don't think that the dealerships update the records themselves. My Carfax report has tons of service history listed on it, while the GM owner's website had none.

Worth a shot though. https://my.gm.com

Service departments and some other GM employees have access to the full warranty/service history of a vehicle, as long as it was performed at a GM dealership. It's not that difficult to get if you ask nicely cause there are always folks on GM forums that have access to the records, although it's usually better to ask before purchasing the vehicle rather than after. :)

I'm in Oregon. We are still waiting for the 2014 sierras we have on order to show up, but I guess they revealed the 6.2L is going to be around 420hp so I have to wait to see the new Yukon Denalis :driver:

If it was done at a GM dealer and under warranty they should. If you PM me your VIN i can look it up.
It probably won't say WHY though. Just that it was replaced.
Could be any number of things. In the 80's GM decided it was cheaper to replace whole components (engines, transmissions, etc) than the time and labor to tear them apart and fix what was wrong. The dealer sends back the core and GM rebuilds it and sells it as a reman.

Usually the report reads worse than it really is, plus dealers sometimes will fiddle with the VIN ... I know my guys at the body shop will often grab another VIN when they do painting or demolding from me when they put it in the books so that it doesn't show up on my vehicle's VIN service history. Not often mind you, but it does happen. :emotions33:

It also happened when I traded my 11 Esky for the 12 and the dealer forgot to put in the new number ... found out a couple of days ago that all the LED headlamp swap work on the 12 has been going on the 11 VIN that I don't own any more. Which is fine by me but probably confusing to the new owner of the 11 if he/she ever sees the report.

The most infuriating thing to see in the report is the dreaded CCND ... then you don't know what the hell's going on.

Customer Concern Not Duplicated

You take it in and tell them the issue, they can't replicate it when they go to work on the truck, so they hand you back the key without fixing anything.
