I have a 2013 Tahoe Hybrid and the navigation screen or just the display itself doesn't turn on sometimes. It's happened twice now in the past 800 miles. I hear music if it's playing and I can press the screen and hear a beep or two if I'm hitting a "button".

I'm not sure why it's doing it, but eventually once I shut down the car completely, key out, and restart, the display works again like normal.

I can't readily repeat the issue. Any tips? TIA

CYKBC,

I'm sorry you are experiencing this issue with your vehicle's navigation. This may be related to a ground short. This is just a suggestion, not a diagnosis. I encourage you to consult with a certified technician at your local dealer for additional assistance.

Keep us posted.

Both my Hybrid and Denali had/have this issue. Once every fifty or so starts it will either not come on, come on in night mode during the day, and even scrambled a couple of times. I turn the truck off, pull out the key, and open the door, then restart it and it goes away. It happens so rarely that I haven't bothered looking into it. It would however annoy me if like you, I had just dropped $50k+ on a new vehicle. This stuff is supposed to work right. Plus you have the latest hard drive version that's supposed to be less quirky.

I've had the same problem in my '09. Every 40 or 50 starts, the nav screen is blank but music is playing just fine. Pull the key, open the door, then restart the Denali like above, but in my case every time it happens, upon restart I get a screen that says to insert a Nav disc even though the disc is in there. I eject the disc and reinsert it and everything is fine for another 40 or 50 starts.
Sad part is the dealer couldn't replicate the problem while it was under warranty so I've had to live with it. Apparently they called GM to get authorization to replace the head unit while it was still under warranty and were told no, if it isn't failing for them then GM wouldn't pay for it. Nice way to treat a customer. Oh well.

Yeah, the dreaded CCND on service records. (Customer Concern Not Duplicated)

Best strategy is to capture a quick video when it happens.

Good thought Serge, thanks.

My dealer's been really good for all my service needs, this is the only one they can't do anything with. They're as frustrated as I am.

Unfortunately it's very common ... here's a transaction line item from a recent VIN I ran a service/warranty history on:

03/07/2012 150476 ZREG----Regular Vehicle Transaction N9996 - Customer Concern Not Duplicated (CCND) - Entertainment/Radio/Navigation/USB 5,505 MI

These show up very frequently and they can seldom be duplicated at the dealership. So yup, video at the ready. :)

I got lucky and brought it in with blank screen music playing. Tech on phone determined it was a hardware issue and dealer service was told to replace the unit straight away.

So far so good. Thank you.
