I believe that one should do want makes them happy. Some buy new vehicles because they do not want the worry about maintance. Some buy new because they want the vehicle. I know a guy who bought a brand Nissan Armada for his 40th birthday ($40,000). We all work hard for our money............ enjoy it. You can not take it with you. I'm thinking about buying a brand new Silverado, because i want it, and I can pay for it.

with interest rates being pretty low on new vehicles and in some cases 0 % add in the dealer incentives sometimes its better to buy new but what ever you do dont ever ever pay msrp thats just a pre selected value of what the manufacture thinks its worth hence the word "suggested"

There isn't that much difference between invoice and msrp - only $3k separates these values on a '12 Tahoe LT. http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/tahoe/2012/options.html?sub=suv
The selling price will be somewhere between the values, optioned up a new Tahoe will be well north of $50k not including sales tax, another $4k. And yeah, the used '12s I'm seeing on CL have 25-30k miles, but shit they are mid 30's - sure makes a ton more sense to me than the train wreck of losing $20k the first year.
To each their own, if you have the money why not? if you live paycheck to paycheck or even remotely resemble that and you are financing $50k for a new Tahoe you are nuckin' futs imo.

Yeah, I hear ya, but me personally would never come close to putting 30k on in 1 year and for the used tahoes that have that amount I can probably guarantee that they were not the easiest of miles. IMO if someone is living paycheck to paycheck they should not even be considering a 2012 anything let alone a Tahoe that doesn't see the greatest of mpg's.

There is several vehicles and the bulk of them being exotics. I didn't buy a used diesel basedon the fact that the used ones didn't save me much, gtos are another example they are selling for near or more then they could have been bought new. Why?They didn't sell many and for 3 years. You can't lump every car in a blanket statement like that.

Those same GTOs that are commanding a premium price also have less than 10k miles on the odometer. I know this because I was looking at buying one before the Tahoe blew its engine.

Minimize trips to the shop. We've owned a couple used cars before that required multiple trips to shop, and buying new gives my spouse peace of mind which is priceless. Our newly bought cars have always had a much better repair record than the used ones. Our 2 pesos...

Took the words out of my mouth. 100k mile power train Warranty that hasn't been ran down 30k miles has some value to it.

I bought my 2011 new, however I bought it BELOW invoice almost $9k off MSRP

No car is ever bought for resale value. It's a depreciating asset. However I will say if you're not buying smart, new can definitely screw you over, but so can the un known of used.

Case in point, NNBS trucks with oil consumption issues that have the engine fail before 100k miles, but can't have a warranty cover it because it was bought used at a Nissan dealer and the vehicle is out of warranty due to original purchase date. That actually happened to a guy on here.

That's not how warranty works. If it was under 5 years or 100k miles from the original in service date it doesn't matter where the vehicle was bought. Now for goodwill warranty it can matter because that is up to the dealer.

Guess you didn't look at very many because I seen them with about any miles for a premium price. It all comes down to what the vehicle is on the resale not what it sells for new. You drive by dealerships you will see several Tahoes and Yukons sitting on every lot you go to so that drives down the resale.

If a new Tahoe goes for $9k under msrp that means the dealer is losing $6k on that deal correct? or does that mean GM takes the loss? seriously, if these trucks are going for that much under msrp why is GM still offering them? I'm basing my opinions on a sale price between invoice and msrp, if that part of my equation is way off sorry I even started the thread.

well I know for a fact that CHevy Volt costs GM $80k to make each vehicle and yet they sell for $40k or less....so right there thats 50% loss on ONE vehicle...multiply that by the thousands sold

well you could play the same game and say that the FIRST prius cost toyota $1 billion dollars...but they've sold over a million priuses so.......??

but broken down, that's what each Volt costs to build.....Damned if I could figure out how Chevy plans to ever recoupe that cash......Toyota already has.... :D

That is exactly the same thing and if they sell more Volts then the costs go down same as on a Prius.
