I just bought an escalade roof rack and was wondering if anyone up here has painted the chrome section. I don't have any chrome on my truck and want the center portion to be painted also. I purchased this because I like the solid look and would not mind the chrome if painting it is not an option. I have read where people have painted their chrome grilles and figured this would be the same concept. Thanks for the help.

Sumo and BlackedOutLT3 both have. If you PM them i'm sure they'd be glad to help. PACE actually used some black out vinyl that looks just as good as paint to cover up his whole esky roof rack black.

There is a whole write up about this in the 07+ exterior section.

Thanks to both responses. That is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't even think about the vinyl. Could always pull it back off if need be. Thanks again.

Sumo, that angle kinda make me think of the old raise roof conversion vans and such kinda like u have a teeny tiny raised roof bump up on top right there since its all body color.

not sure i like the color matched esky rack. kinda defeats the purpose IMO of adding one...i think the painted one just looks like something stuck up there that should be removed...weird. i thought i would have liked it...

It all good chad. I'm not expecting everyone to like it. I too have considered removing the racks entirely for a clean sleek look. I put it on before it as painted. The chrome made it looked way out of place. As far as vinyl, I woudnt know about that.

having it painted reminds me of the OBS denali/escalade racks all one color.

I agree about the chrome being out of place. I don't have any chrome on the truck and wanted the rack so it looks like one smooth line. With the stock rack you see all the space. I believe the esky racks look alot better, but if I don't have chrome on the truck I don't want it on the rack. Can't wait to get mine, it should be here tomorrow.

Finally got my roof rack wrapped in black vinyl. I think it matches pretty good for $15. Can always take it off and still have chrome if need be.

That looks great Andy. The Vinyl route is definitely a smart one and looks just as good.

SS HOE---Looks really clean.....i think the color match is the way to go if you don't have any other chrome on the vehicle ;)

yeah I believe for my truck all black is better, but if I had chrome wheels like felix my roof rack would still look like his. I just like the rack being solid from front to back.

Yea I agree and if my car was murdered out I would've blacked out my roof rack too :)

that looks great, Did you happen to scuff up the inside of the racks when you installed the cross bars? I did on mine a little.

looks good, wonder how long that vinyl will stay black. Should of gone with a marine vinyl, UV resistant, mold and mildew resistant etc etc
