Center console lock removal

Hi all.

As I am repairing things on my 2016 PPV, my current sticking point is in the center console. Specifically, the locking lower portion. While the console is fortunately unlocked, the key I have does not work in the lock. According to the SPID, I should only have one key for the PPV.

That seems to indicate that the console I have is not original to this unit. I'm guessing they took them out for a custom unit and replaced them with the stick units when they sold them.

I want this console to be able to be lockable. I cannot figure out how to get this lock out of the console. GPT tells me that I should be able to press on two tabs and the lock pop out.... I am not having any luck with that. I can see the tabs, I can get them pressed, but I cannot get the lock to pop out.

What am I missing?

My recommendation is to take the truck to a local locksmith and let them solve the issue. I suspect that you will be out of there in 15 minutes, WITH a new key that works.

I had the console out over the weekend for another issue. And I was able to get the lock out of the console itself. For those wondering, this is NOT the most secure lock in the world. It wouldn't take much to bash that out of there.

While I had the console out, I was able to remove that lower cover for the console and get better access to the lock. A big pair of channel lock pliers and a screwdriver made the job easier. I clamped the pliers for on two of the tabs and press another with the screwdriver. Given there are four of these tabs, I don't know how a person would get the lock out without taking the console our and apart.

Anyway, the lock and a key are now in the hands of a local locksmith. They weren't too confident that had the....wafers(?) to do this style of lock.

We'll see what they come up with.

Check with the company that made the console. They usually have parts like locks and keys for OK prices. Or you could be creative with some large washers and a regular cam lock and come up with something that works pretty affordably.
