What sounds did I hear in the replacement motor? Same as the last two motors before they failed.
- Keep in mind GM V8's used to sound like this
2017 6.2L tune, no idea what's "normal" 2021 onward
- My video at
3:20-3:50 hear valve racket (like
this vid) while cylinder on, then nothing with the cylinder off (DFM)
- My video at
2:58-3:08 hear potential rod-knock (like
this short)
What was my oil choice? 0W-40
- I requested 0W-40, but the spec called for 0W-20, they were fine with 0W-40 no extra charge
-
Pro-Tip: Change 0W-40 more frequently (I'll do every 3K). The additives needed for +20 cause it to degrade faster (sources

Did I have a Pico Test? Yes.
- I asked to test the old motor as baseline
- The old motor passed the test
- The test did not pick up the stuck-lifter diagnosis they found the month before, don't know why
Did I get Warranty Extension? No.
- Replaced motors DO NOT GET EXTENDED WARRANTY
- Motors passing pico test get the 150K 10yr extended warranty.
- Mine passed the pico test, but my motor serial number was in the recall-replace list, so no extension for me
Did I file a Lemon Law Case? Yes, 8 months in.
- I started lemon law case with motor #2, kept adding to it with 7 service followup visits over 5 months
- Two weeks before this recall, my motor #2 is diagnosed with lifter failure, but GM denies warranty repair approval
- One week before the recall GM offered 10% (-3% fees) settlement, I said "no, the new motor is already failing"
- Recall happens, motor #3 goes in, send docs to GM
- GM said "Motor #3 was a recall so it doesn't count. We'll re-offer the 10% settlement"
- Attorneys advised to take the settlement or file a personal lawsuit (likely last 1-3 years)
- Other option is to join a class action suit, but payouts are low (average <$2k + free onstar in 2010s)
