Sorry to hear about the engine problem.

How many miles on your 2021?

Did you have any strange noise or anything that would have led you to expect there may have been an engine problem?

I hope the dealer can source an engine and get it swapped quickly.

I think OP did well, yes sucks that he will be out of a vehicle for a while but buying it used, and not being under warranty and getting a free engine... maybe not a bad deal at the end of the day ;)

Honestly, no it seemed absolutely fine. The dealer said they would update me on Thursday as to how long it would take, but they said to expect several weeks. All in all it could’ve been a lot worse, but very surprising that it just went out like that.

Honestly, this is kind of how I’m looking at it right now. I am pretty disappointed that it went out but at the same time if they truly are going to cover everything and put a new motor in it, I’m not nearly as bummed as I would’ve been

And sorry I forgot to answer your question. I have 42,538 miles on it.

You weren’t far away from home with others in the car with you either when it happened. Possibly the best worst case scenario.

I have only heard of a few cases of engines almost failing or failing while not on the highway at speed. Probably could count on one or two hands at this point. I really wonder if any of these engines that failed not at highway speeds would have been flagged with the dealer inspection using the Pico Scope/Knock Sensor testing before the failures?

I guess time will tell how many 0W40 engines fail after "Passing" the dealer inspection and how many miles they tend to survive. Is the dealer inspection and 0W40 oil just spreading the problems out over time as to now swamp GM and the dealers with engine replacements?

As the world burns.
