To build a relationship with your salesperson. Better yet, deal ONLY with the ordering manager and build a relationship with him. Make a connection. Make sure you can text him and he texts back.

He’s your main source of information through this process. Mine was phenomenal, and gave me a weekly constraint list, distribution updates, status codes and was incredibly helpful.

Shout out to CMA Colonial Chevrolet for their customer service.

That’s great advice. I’d assert the best person at the dealership to build a relationship with is the service manager. He/She will be the single best advocate for you and will contribute to your long term happiness with the vehicle more than any sales person.

True. But you have to have the vehicle in your possession before you can get it serviced.

Also when you are buying your vehicle before you sign on the dotted line make sure you go meet the general manager of the business on a friendly basis, before you have to meet him on an unfriendly basis....
It's good to meet all of the dealership management up front so they at least can put a face with a name, in case you have to talk about other things in the future.

It’s good advice to tell others to be forthcoming and try and establish that relationship…but what you experienced is not the norm lol.

I want to thank you for the wealth of info I have gotten from all of you on this forum in the short time I have been around. I have been thinking about embarking on this journey since around thanksgiving. After MUCH research and surfing, I placed an order 3 1/2 weeks ago and was accepted last week and currently sit at code 3000. I really learned a lot during your journey and I appreciate letting us all follow along.

In this area the problem with all this is the constant personnel turnover in dealerships. The salesperson you deal with won't be there next month. Small town dealers are somewhat different in this though.

agreed that should be objective for sure, the reality is that most dealers won’t allow you to work directly with the one who is placing the order….much less have weekly contact with them. They want the salesman to be the point of contact

The two dealers we ordered from, the owners were the ones placing the orders…salesmen were clueless as they simply didnt even have access to the software to check an order…they had to go ask to be able to provide an update. Even talked to the main sales manager at one of the dealerships a couple times and although he could look up the orders, he didn’t have access to their “waiting list” or constraint list

I had a bunch of little issues with my out of state dealer (never went in person) but the salesman was super attentive and answered my calls and texts really quickly. He was my go-between to finance manager too which saved some time leaving messages since finance rarely picks up.

They charged for, but forgot to install door edge film (which I don’t want anyway but was one of their “add-ons”) and wheel locks which were included on my window sticker, but not included or installed.

When I called it out, they sent me random lug nuts via ups overnight. These turned out to be $10 autozone non-locking lugs and a socket. The salesman apologized and claimed his service/prep team sent them out and don‘t use the OEM wheel locks on their vehicles. I proceeded to complain again and told him to check the window sticker, it shows wheel locks which had to be OEM then he ordered them and overnighted to me. Bunch of other little delays with paperwork or trade in pay off, but everything worked out.

You're lucky to have a great dealership to work with. Mine would not tell me anything, acted like I was bothering them by simply asking.

In my experience with the same dealer for 9.5 years, I do see a lot of new faces now and then. The salesman I dealt with last was excellent from the beginning, then there was the financing guy. He tried to stick me with a 4.5% rate after I told I have a credit union I deal with. I had to ask for his manager before I could use my credit union's 2.2% rate.

The crew at this dealer's Quick Change oil change was a joke, they definitely didn't respect people's cars. Oily hand prints all over everything, rude, lazy, it was scary knowing they were working on your $70000 vehicle. finally they closed it and moved oil changes and services to the main service center.

that is unfortunately more the norm than should be…ordered Tahoe built last week and waiting on shipment (thankfully by truck)…asked salesman if he had an ETA and could share any info from VIN VIEW…he responded that things weren’t moving very quickly these days?

chevy chat isn’t giving out any info since it’s been built…another forum has a guy that can check the orders and he said ETA 4/14…I shouldn’t know more than my salesman

Was that other guy Linton on GM insider news?

Also, I think most salesman aren’t particularly interested because they know regardless they are selling the car to you or the next guy. I think VinView is something the ordering manager probably only can see. He’s probably too lazy to ask

yes to Linton...seems like he's been able to be granted access to the system that only a few at dealerships are authorized to use. Salesman...probably 10 reasons why most give the non-descript info...who knows how the ordering guys feel about customers asking specific questions that 6mos-yr ago they were the only ones that knew the lingo...heck, the salesmen probably don't even know what I'm talking about
