I pulled up to a stop sign today, I let off the brake, pushed on the gas and the Tahoe does not move.

No problems at any other time of operation. It may have something to do with the traction control and it doesn't happen very often. I BELIEVE that today I turned of the traction control and then the vehicle moved without problems. I was sitting at a 4 way stop though and was more concerned about the lines of cars on all 4 corners than paying attention to why it went away.

The same thing happened last winter a couple times and I wrote it off to ice, no ice today..
I have had a whirring\grinding noise in the front left for some time, only happening from a dead stop (every time) to about 5mph, the sound then goes away. I get a vibration then it almost sounds like some kind of actuator moving, a noise something like a power window motor would sound.

The sound happens every time you move from 0 mph, the lack of movement about once a month.

Tranny fluid is fine and I just repaired a leak in a power steering hose, but this hesitation \ lack of movement has been going on for a year or so now.

Any ideas for me?

Any chance it feels brake related, such as a sticky caliper or the ABS pump misbehaving? If not, when related to the transmission, the first thing we do is check the pump and pressure. Who do you know with a good bi-directional scan tool that can check the brake pressure and look around the transmission?

All vehicle info would help a lot. I don't know if you have the actual throttle cable or drive by wire, based on whatever year rig you have. When you do push on the throttle, when the vehicle will not move, does the engine actually rev up? If you have a grinding noise at the left front, why have you not inspected? Or have you and did not say. What does "tranny fluid is fine mean"?

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

Sorry about the lack of model, I thought it was in my signature.. Gary

I did have a brake pad smell today after exiting the vehicle, come to think of it, my gas mileage has been steadily dropping also. That was a hard thing to notice because the vehicle is rarely use.

Though there was never any feel of body torquing when the lack of movement happened, and to be honest I did not notice the engine rev. That part of the problem has only happened a few times and this is the first that I was sure it was not because of ice on the road. I have not had the lack of movement from stop since March of this year.
I have investigated the noise, but could not pinpoint a reason for it.. and it only happens at a dead stop, no noise from the left side at any other time.

I posted that the tranny fluid was fine because the vehicle would not move.

I am trying to get information because I cannot pinpoint the noise itself, only that I get a vibration from a stop and then It goes away. I was hoping someone had experienced the problem before.
I did mention the recent repair to the power steering system which ended up being a leaky hose, no other repairs to the vehicle for a year or so.

is this a dead gas pedal? or it still rev up and not move?

my tc is messed up. if i have tc on and my wheels spin even a little bit, my gas pedal goes flat dead. wont come back to life for like 10 seconds or a bit less. if tc is off the pedal wont die, but i also hear my ebcm whine under the truck if they spin. its under the drivers seat under the truck.

ive also noticed i can turn tc off, but when i hold the button in for 5 seconds or so it should also turn stability control off. but mine dont, dic flashes up service stability. ive scanned it and got the code. but got no where. think its the ebcm. the solder joints break and are fix able.

I have always associated the lack of movement with the Traction Control. This winter I had a fault on the T\C and the 4wd at the same time and reading old posts cleaned the grounds on the body mount under the drivers' door and it solved both error codes.

As soon as I turned off the traction control today the vehicle began moving again. It could be the engine did not rev.. it is always a shock when it happens and my concentration is centered on moving again, not diagnosis or I would have noticed the engine revving or not.

Ok, just remember, I am old at 67. I see the info in the signature and in the post. Did you edit all that in after I posted or did you have it all there and I am blind. No matter for now. Back to the problem. @Scottydoggs asked the same thing I did but got no response. When you have the problem and attempt to accel, does the engine rpm's rev up and no movement or does the engine rpm's not rev up and even though you push the throttle down it stays at idle? This engine rev question is important to the final outcome.

IMO, you also need to inspect at least the lf brakes. No, the brakes do not have to be completely locked up to be hot and smell. You say, "investigated the noise". What exactly did you do to investigate? I still don't understand the "tranny fluid is fine" answer. How did you determine the tranny fluid is fine? Is it full when checked on level ground with engine running and fluid is hot? What color is it? The whole problem, movement and noise may well be the trans but we need more details.

I was thinking maybe I had a faulted wheel sensor and the unit though the wheels were not moving and so killed all movement. No fault code though.

The sig was edited after you mentioned it so it would not happen again. It was in there at one time, but that was a while ago. That is the first thing I do when joining any forum. I have lost it at my dodge forums if I have long time periods between logins.

Ok, well just go thru my last post and @Scottydoggs post and get us some answers, please. To me it is pretty simple. When you push down on the throttle it either revs the engine or it stays at idle. Which is it?

Like I said, I believe it was not revving. I was sitting at a stop with a line of traffic behind me and I do not know. I cannot recreate it so I do not know.
Thanks for the help there partner.

in researching my own dead pedal. ive found theres two grounds on the frame under the driver seat, and another one iirc near the rad support, d/s, they get rusty and quick working. you can try a clean up of them contacts. and ive also seen the tb cause this. bad pig tail from one of the sensors.

you could scan it for codes too, see what you come up with.

i use this app. scans everything https://play.google.com/store/apps/...d2.chevroletsys.chevroletsysscanfree&hl=en_US
just need a odb2 bluetooth reader, 10-20 bucks for that.

Yea, on the initial post I thought immediately that it would be related to the drive by wire set up. That is one of the reasons I like my 2002 with the actual throttle cable. I have heard the stories before of this problem. I think it is a sensor or two that goes bad and I guess it could be intermittent. That still doesn't explain the lf noise. Hopefully he will get back to us about my questions about the inspections at the lf and at the trans fluid.

If you look up above, I noted in one of my posts that I did clean the grounds. I had a "Stability Control" fault and a "Service 4WD" fault. Cleaning those grounds solved both of those faults. I have just checked it with a code reader and there is no code from the last event.

Do you know if it is possible to pull a fuse and just disable the traction control?

All I was looking for here was if the T\C could cause the car to not move after a traffic stop. When I shut of the T\C on a regular basis as Scotty said he did the problem never appeared. It happens so infrequently though, that may mean nothing. Since the noise was at takeoff as was the lack of movement I associated the two as possibly part of the same problem.
I thought someone may have had the problem before and could alert me to where I should look.
I also noted above that I checked the Transmission fluid because I figured I would be asked if my level was up, the tranny fluid level was fine.

I have investigated the ground situation on many sites including this site and youtube. There are two grounds on the body mount facing the rear of the car directly below and back of the driver door. Three wires, two on one, one on the other. I wire brushed the ground connectors and the mount itself. That took care of the T\C fault and the 4wd fault that I had last week. At this moment there are no faults in the truck. I checked the codes 15 minutes ago.

Scotty, I did not clean any grounds on the Radiator support. That was not mentioned anywhere else. I will look at that tomorrow. There was a mention of one on the Actuator on the transfer case, but since the first one solved my 4wd problem, I looked no further and I figured my problem was gone with the codes.
