Had this side sweep system installed the other day, it appears as if the tailpipe after the rear axle sticks out to the side a bit too much, even before the chrome tip is put on. I got off the phone with Gibson and they said that one pipe might need to be cut in order for it to look right. You can see that the tip is basically flush with the pipe over it, there is supposed to be at least a few inch gap of free space. Has anyone else run in to this? Not sure how I feel cutting a brand new exhaust system and maybe voiding the warranty, but it just does not look right to me. Everything looks like it is in the proper place, all the hangers, etc look exactly as the instructions show. Pictures attached. Any input is appreciated.

common practice for exhaust companies to leave extra in a kit like that. order the kit and decide to not put the tip on the pipe still needs to exit the vehicle. the tailpipe exit needs to be trimmed so you can slide the tip to where you the end customer wants it to stop at. only ones that dont do that are the kits where the tip is already welded to the tailpipe.

Wow, thank you. I really had no idea that it needed to be trimmed. At least I know it is normal now. I will bring it back and have them trim it. Basically all that needs to be done is that rear section removed and cut, correct? It is stainless, could it be done with a basic hacksaw? If so, I could probably do it myself. I would like it to be basically flush with the bumper and also sit up straighter, don't like the crooked look.

Nothing abnormal about that pipe sticking out like that. Helps keeps the fumes from stagnation under the vehicle especially when you are idle with a door or window open.

I would agree with you if the tip wasn't flush with the tailpipe. For the tip to look "right", about 8-10 inches needs to be cut off of the pipe...in my opinion.

ive dealt with it from edelbrock, gibson, and banks. i think if i recall the banks kit i put on specifies a length to trim off if you choose to install the tip thats included with the kit. flowmaster, magnaflow, and dynomax typically weld thier tips on.

Hopefully this Gibson kit is of decent quality, it is the stainless version. I practically stole it off eBay for $235 with FREE shipping. I believe the original list price was almost $800.

they are usually around 400-600 depending on where you go. if its a real gibson kit you should get plenty of years out if it.
