GM supports both too.

Then why do you think it doesn’t work? Specifically why are forum members not able to get their GM trucks to charge their iPhones on the wireless charging mat? Maybe there is something else going on?

From what I have read they do not use the same standard, Apple uses an older standard and also slower charging speeds.

I would say, as I did earlier, Apple dropped the ball on this. You can't fault other companies because Apple can't get with the current standards. Mod the charging pad to whatever Apple decided was adequate, do not use it, or buy a phone that will work with it. Basically the only options until Apple bullies the others to do what they want or they actually give their customers the correct hardware.

Haha, yes Apple has a history of bullying customers and partners into adopting whatever standard they feel is best. The removal of the headphone jack on iPhones, the removal of USB ports on MacBook pros, and a few other examples come to mind. I guess they are doing the same thing here. There must be multiple versions of the Qi standard or something like that.

I would say they dipped their toes into wireless charging instead of jumping in to where everyone else already is for whatever bs reasoning Apple will say. Reading on some apple forums I have seen multiple excuses for inadequate wireless charging and hints towards an Apple wireless charger that is supposed to be the next best thing, surprise surprise.

Maybe try a Mophie charger case and hope for the best

Is there anyone out there offering a retrofittable center console top that has an Apple-compatible wireless charging station? I have a 2015 Yukon and would really like to have a wireless charging station that works with my iPhone 8. It seems like GMC (or someone) could make a new center console top that could replace the current one.

I don't think GM is going to remake the console lid because of the designs/hardware choices of Apple.

I bet someone will make an aftermarket USB connected wireless charging mat that would work for all cars.

Official support documentation from Apple with regards to which car manufacturers the iPhone 8, 8+, and most likely the X, will work with.

Thanks for posting. Looks like wireless charging only works on 2018 models. This statement from Apple says it all:

The implementations of wireless charging in 2017 and earlier models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC do not meet the requirements for Qi certification. These models do not work with iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Maybe it's changed for 2018 but it is shown as a separate part number for the 2017 Denali (with the charger) -

But it looks like the charging module is a separate part number too.

I wouldn't think it would change all of the sudden for the 2018 models but GM doesn't always do things that make sense.

In that link the charging pad is called out as a separate part but is being sold along side the armrest assembly unit so hopefully gmparts will update their site soon to include the 2018 models. Only bummer is the cost. Doesn't seem it would be worth the $350+ just to have the wireless charging ability. I'd rather find a Qi charger that could fit in the little cubby in the center console and put the phone there if I was that in need of wireless charging.
