New headlights installed.

Not to long ago I posted about installing some aftermarket tail lights. Well I finally got around to installing my headlights+signal/daytime driving lights. I got these from Carid and these are spyder lights (at least that is what they told me. I will explain as we go along.)

A few things to note about these lights. I was assured by a carid rep that these are spyder lights. I contacted them because these lights showed up in a plain brown box with no Spyder logos, instructions (though you really don't need them but still...) or anything stating that they were from Spyder. Only the name "Onyx" as the shipper. I wanted to be sure that these were from Spyder before I boxed it up and shipped it back to them.

I was informed by the "rep" that "Onyx" is a partner of Spyder which I was not aware. I'm telling you this because if you order these, they may show up at your doorstep like mines and just like my taillights. In a brown unassuming box with "made in China" on it.

Also note (and this info if for those who don't have these) that if you do opt for these lights you will have to reroute the connector for the corner marker lights to the middle in-between the two main bulbs as that is where the connection for the new corner marker lights is located. Trust me it's not difficult at all and should take a minute or two.

Also keep your original lights (or at least the mounting bracket for the lights) the brackets for the new lights don't seem as rigid as the old ones. I was contemplating removing the old brackets and placing them on the new lights but I will see down the road...

Anyway here are the lights on my Tahoe. I will trying to get some shots of it running later.

Looks good. I got the Depo headlights and did the ping pong ball mod to keep them from bouncing around. The brackets were a bit softer compared to OEM, so in the end I swapped out the OEM brackets onto the Depo headlights and they fit much tighter.

I didn't realize you could reuse the OEM brackets. I did the ping pong mod as well, but might have to look into the bracket swap.

Thanks, I really like them but I have a question. With my OEM lights when I use me key fob to unlock my Tahoe the front lights (daytime running lights?) would briefly flash (like most vehicles to let you know that you unlock your vehicle.) Now after installing the new lights this no longer happens. Was it the same for you? Everything was plug in play for me. Nothing was cut. Everything that was unplugged was plugged back into the new lights however I don't get that flash anymore.

For most folks it would be no big deal but I'm pretty OCD about this and would like to get it working again.

Thx compliments. All my lighting changes have been straight PNP and I have not had any issues to date with heads, bumpers, fogs or tails. This would be some of the steps I would take, but there are guys on here with far more electrical expertise than I have.

Fuse. Plug in your OEM lights and see if they flash. Perhaps the new lights need a resistor if it was not already part of the package wiring. Maybe there is a setting in the DIC that was changed? I'm spitballing here as mine do flash when I click the fob.

@05Single is the LED magician. Maybe he will chime in soon or one of the other guys with more knowledge or ideas.

I've never dealt with these lights but I would assume the drls do not need a resistor because that only fixes hyper flash and cruise. And leds don't draw enough power to blow a fuse.


I would check polarity, I bet all you need to do is reverse the plugs in the socket.

I'm pretty sure it's the marker (park) lights that flash, not the DRL's. Do your marker lights work? If not it might be polarity like mentioned before.

Drl flash when unlock button is hit on the keyless remote.
Parking lights flash when you hit lock on the remote.
Might be different for denalis.

On my Denali, park lights flash with either lock or unlock and dome/ puddle lights stay on for an extended period when unlocking, and fade off in for 5 seconds when locking. I can change this in the secondary DIC.

Yes my marker lights do indeed work.

Just take a ping pong ball or two and wedge them in between the Depo headlights and their brackets. It helps stops the wobble as their brackets are a bit weak compared to the OEM brackets. I ran this for a while, then decided the change out the brackets between the Depos and OEM. The OEM brackets are much stiffer and of course fit the 2 pin holes much better.

Just use your oem brackets, don't be ghetto like @Fosscore

@05Single when he is in Alaska vs. Vegas. On fiiiyyyeer. It is a bit ghetto yes, but it worked until I made the change...lol The Depos are great projectors, they just adjust a bit weird IMO, but the output for $100 is far superior, as mentioned to our OEM lights. Yes a proper retrofit would be a winner, but for me in the city, I am ok with what I have for the moment. lol @MadDogDelpho

Yea I know the ping pong mod has worked for many people for many years. If you don't have oem brackets to spare it works perfectly.
Yea @Fosscore I get back to my old self when I'm aways from that frozen desert lol.
But to whoever figured out the mod it's actually pretty genius.

Yes it is a cool simple mod and nobody would ever know. The Depo brackets are just flimsy and some guys have no issues. Mine wobbled and the adjustment was a little challenging, but nobody had been flashing me for being all goofy aligned.



Maybe that's cause I'm a bit lower than most trucks around me...
