I figured I would start a thread on the wife's new grocery getter. Picked up a 07 LTZ with 200k on it at a smoking price knowing it had mechanical issues. There was a miss on #7 hoping it was just plugs and wires I took a shot, no luck. It ended up being a collapsed lifter on #7. Being the mileage and not sure if there was any other internal issues I pulled the motor and trans. It never hurts to upgrade while your in there right? The 5.3 is getting punched out to 3.898 (5.7) foraged internals, howard cam and springs, stock tb for now, long tubes, etc. Shooting for 450 at the wheels. The 4L70E is getting rebuilt as we speak with stronger internals a rebuilt torque convertor and shift kit to get the power to the ground.

The 4L70E...

Do you have RPO M70 in your glovebox door? It was my understanding that this transmission was only mated to the L76 6.0 motor. You might look into a slightly higher stall converter to complement your camshaft and long tubes. Have read about people using the ZL-1/CTS-V torque converter (24242552) for slightly higher stall in our trucks.

What specs on the Howard camshaft? Is the 5.3 an LMG, LY5 or LC9?

LC9 motor, Howard cam 269 int./278 exh - LSA 114 when I spoke with Howard I told them that I do a fair amount of towing and being the vehicle weight this is what they recommended.

Transmission builder said it was the 4l70e and he was going to upgrade the internals in the tc. He has all the equipment to rebuild a TC so I told him my goals and let him run.

Nice.

What forged internals did you go with?

I ended up having to change plans the machine shop wouldn't go that far after sonic testing the block. I ended up at 3.80. The heads were cleaned up and it's going back together as we speak. I'm still going to find another lc9 from a flood vehicle or something and build one to 5.7. These ls motors are so simple. I mocked up the exhaust quick. It's the $200 Amazon set but the quality is much better than I was hoping for. 540299c10e7cd49b7ab7b10abf4fe055.jpg4a5f97822e281a5e98c12b95124f8b67.jpg73cd31935521c7099efcd16bae822e62.jpg56f7f1dcfae237554ad19f70995d3dd1.jpg
