Question for everyone, have a 2001 gmc yukon xl 1500 4x4 SLT . The rear end is locked up . Have the tires off the ground and the tires turn in different directions but the ring gear and pinion gear don't move . I have read that the G80s tend to lock up just wondering if this is the issue ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Pop the differential cover! What happened? Did you blow up the spider gears? Won't know until you remove the cover...

Removed the cover and spider gears are good and turn with wheels no metal shavings .

Ok. With the vehicle in neutral AND the rear axel is off the ground, will the driveshaft turn?

Im not sure what you mean by "locked up". What does the vehicle do when you try to drive forward? And you're sure that the axle retaining pins are in place?

It should turn as long as both tires are rotating in the same direction. If you are just spinning one and the spider gears are working, then probably not going to see much.

Try spinning the driveshaft by hand in neutral and see what happens. If that doesn't work, remove the shaft snd try spinning the yoke. You'll either know if it's in the rear end or transmission at that point

Tried the drive shaft and it wouldn't turn . Disconnected the drive shaft and it moved . So did the drive shaft at the transmission
