Yeah - I live in Wyoming . I hunt, fish, hike. 30 miles from house and there is no onstar, cell service , or way to get a lock smith. And I like to be prepared.

I thought onstar was satellite based. Have you ever pushed the blue button when you were in the secluded location just to see what happens.

I haven't! It is certainly possible that I am not aware of its capabilities. Technology...

I bought a faraday pouch. http://a.co/cQtyTtm
Inside I keep an extra smart fob (battery removed), small flat blade screw driver and spare batteries.

The whole thing is buried deep inside one of my seats and tethered with some paracord. The pouch prevents the truck from sensing the smartfob and allowing it to start.

I keep a spare valet key blade hidden under the chassis but can also use the OnStar app on my phone to get inside the truck.

Pull the paracord, install the battery and get moving.
FYI you can also take a fob with a dead battery, put it in the programing slot inside center console and it will start the vehicle.

I zip tied a spare key under the vehicle, and then put a spare fob inside an Altoids tin box that I lined with metal a/c duct tape. I store the Altoids box inside the console. Since the fob is inside the metal tape-lined Altoids box, the vehicle doesnt detect it.

Works like a charm. Total cost: zero. (I had the tape in my shop, and got the Altoids box outta the trash.)

The Altoids tin alone is not robust enough to block the sensors...has to be lined inside and out with the metal duct tape. A Faraday bag would have been simpler and easier, but the wife says I'm a cheapskate (I prefer "thrifty").
