Took the truck to my mechanic. He believes the heater core is the problem; could this be it? It's a very strange thing, hear works in the days which temps are above 40 or so. When it's colder, no heat. I do recall that when I was messing around with plastic cover under heater core, there was some antifreeze, not much, but still.

if the it is blocked it could be the issue. regardless if you saw coolant in the hvac box and are absolutely sure it is not leaking in from a hose outside then it must be replaced.

Just had the same issues with my 95 5.7 tahoe. Back in the summer I installed a new stereo and the stereo sits on top of the AC controls. Months go by it gets cold here and I turn on the heat. No heat. I flushed my core checked blend door actuator no movement. Before I changed I decided to check controls first and the circuit b that connects to the control knobs had came out from that new install..simple fix that took me days to figure out. But I did notice that all of the dash was kinda loose and the dash board has the common 95 chevy shake.

Well turns out the problem is I have a hole in the plastic box and the ac condenser is busted up also :(

I filled it with foam as a temp fix, so the hot air doesn't escape.
Fixing the condenser is a big job am I right?

yes the a/c system needs to be discharged and the hvac assembly completely removed if you actually mean the evap in the same box. for the condenser in front of the radiator it is easier to get out.

Ugh so aggravating, so this didn't do the job. It's still intermittent heat, same as before. The hole is definitely patched. The problem may be something mechanical, not triggering the heat. Turn the truck for one ride & I have nice strong heat, turn it in another time & have just cool air. Any thing else I could try?
