@Tonyrodz If you don't mind me asking, approximately how much of that $7700 was due to labor costs? Just curious because I have access to a facility and friends that would allow me to do most of if not all of the labor involved in the swap, other than the tune.

I could be wrong but I believe that the 4L80E is actually a 4L60E with upgraded tougher internal parts.

Nope. The HD 4L60E is the 4L65E. The 4l80e has different ratios, not to mention different bell housing dimensions, etc.

'03 would work. You'll probably have to swap on your current throttle body because '03 switched to DBW. But the DBW TB on those earlier motors were still the same 3-bolt pattern as the older DBC TBs. My thoughts on getting a 6.0 (LQ9, which is iron block) from a Silverado SS is that the chances are that it was beat on because it was an SS. When I was shopping around for an LQ9, I wanted one from an Escalade because it's the same motor, but chances are slim that it was beat on. If you're gonna rebuild it, then it doesn't matter it's history (other than mechanical wear/damage). Also, if you're gonna rebuild one, why not get an LQ4? It's more common and therefore cheaper and may be cheap enough that you can invest in some go-fast goodies (flat-top pistons- maybe forged?, cam, head work, headers, etc.). The LQ9 has a few upgrades over the LQ4 besides just the higher compression from the flat-top pistons. But, again, this may not matter depending on how in-depth you're gonna rebuild it/build it up.

4l80 is closer related to a th400 with OD. Think RV transmission. A STOCK 4L80 with shift kit beats a fully built 4l60. I got my 6.0 from an 02 2500 suburban that had a 4l80. If the motor came with a 4l80 u will need to use the 4l60 flex plate since the 80 plate is flat with a spacer and has a 6 bolt converter pattern..

I hated myself for not going 4l80 when I blew my transmission the first time. Given a 2nd chance I'm going 4l80 and not looking back. 6.0 torque is so much stronger and being modded makes them feel like it wants to rip the guts out a 4l60.
