I'm in the process of installing a fully rebuilt 6.0L in my 2008 Yukon. As part of this swap, I'm replacing the weak 4L60 with a 4L80e. I have the harness adapter already. With everything pulled out, I measured a length of 27" from the transfer case adapter to the edge of the bell housing on the 4L60. However, the 4L80e measures about 28.5" long. Is there a trick to getting the new tranny mounted? Also, am I going to have to get different length drive shafts too? I just have to figure this bit out. Any help is appreciated!

I've read about people extend there existing mount to fit the 80e with a piece of angle. I think that was PT.net.
You'll have to cut yours down or buy a new one to the dimensions needed.

Well I ended up making a custom mount using my existing cross member. I had the transmission mount from the 2000 Silverado that I used part of to make it happen.

Fits in the factory position and should be much stronger than some of the others I have seen made. I also found a driveshaft at the junkyard today that fit the bill for $25. Much better than the $95-$160 I was quoted to have mine cut down!

I do have one question concerning the wiring. I know I need to move the wire in the front harness from position 45 to 26. Does anyone know what color the wire is and how to get it out without damaging the the connector and pin? Thanks!

That's pretty much what I've seen other members do, Nice job.

Thanks. I got this figured out about a day after my post. Been driving it around and enjoying the increased power! All the figures point to about 550hp. Still have to get it on a dyno at some point to confirm. Also plan on adding a turbo later this spring / summer.

What gears are you running? I'm considering 4.10s since I have 3.42. Heard that 1st gear is pretty tall. I may not change to 2nd gear till 60 lol.

Also did u swap to a higher stalled converter?

Nice man, good news.
How do you like it so far?
Any noticeable differences that you can tell between the 60 and 80?
Do you have a stall or is it stock?
I just missed out on 2 80s I was looking at, back on the hunt again.

So far I love it! The power is a night and day difference from the stock 5.3/4L60 combo. I'm still running the stock 4L80e converter for now with a 2400 stall. Might change that later on. I lucked out and the tranny I got only had about 60k miles on it. May need a rebuild at some time, but for the price of free, I can't complain! The engine build already cost me $4k, so additional upgrades will have to be a bit down the road.

I have 3.73 posi rear end for now. Going to build that up later too. The custom CAM we had ground is already setup for the turbo I want to add. So still room for improvements, but lots of fun!

That's awesome to hear. I'm glad everything worked out and you're rollin.
Cant beat the price of that 80 hahaha. I'll end up paying more for an 80 once I find one.
I like 3:73s, that's what I have to with a TruTrac. Ran the same set up in the past 3 vehicles.
You going to start a build thread for the turbo install, that's going to be nuts.
What are your goals?

Hey Bpopilek , Holycrap Bud you might be making me week , or maybe my month...What did you pull the front and rear driveshafts out of to make it work in your 80e swap and also just to be sure and safe with the info , Front and rear driveshafts should accept 32 spline input/outputs from the transfer case ??? I hope I didn't just make that part confusing... I would appreciate your input on this topic as well as anything else you'd like to share . I'm just about to start my 4L80e swap this weekend but I've been waiting on making any moves with the driveshafts because there is so little information out there for our particular swaps and what is out there has not very little for details , basically just what the did , not how he did it . ANYWAY long story short I would like to not have to cut these D.shafts if I don't have to and I've always felt that there had to be a front and rear driveshaft from factory that would fit mine due to the engine/trans combination that were available , maybe a 08 and up Yukon , Tahoe , Escalade ? Not sure what your running for transfer case but I'm a 2004 Yukon Denali w/6.0 w/4l65e , Transfer case is Borg Warner 4481 or (AKA) BW4481 its AWD all the time . I'm not going to be running the bw4481 I bought a used BW4485 which is the stronger , tougher brother of the bw4481 . It's got larger sprockets , wider chain , and the infamous 32 spline input/output shaft that is needed to marry the 4l80e to the transfer case and make this all work...Thanks in advance Bpopilek , Appreciate it...
