What advantage is there to turning daytime running lights off?

Agreed. In Canada DRL are u required on vehicles. When I go stateside, I notice more and more cars now have them, but I remember once upon a time it wasn’t the norm south of the border.

I find it much safer to identify cars, especially if you’re on a street with a lot of parked cars, traffic etc.

I know that the Tahoe/Yukons have gotten bigger. I had a friend who came in to some money back in the 90’s and bought a brand new Yukon fully loaded.
That seemed like a big truck at the time but definitely smaller than the latest models from GM.

My friend's parents had an Excursion growing up, and I always remember it being this big mammoth of a vehicle and thought they'd never make anything that big again. It was based on an F250, after all. Then I got my Yukon XL and one day an Excursion parked next to it. I was blown away that they looked to be about the same size. Checked the specs and sure enough, they're nearly identical in size, the Excursion may only be an inch or two longer.

To be fair, the old one looks like it’s further back on the gravel than the newer one, so it adds to the effect of how much smaller it appears.

Based on what I learned in art class bout vanishing point, I don't think 12 to 18 inches is going to make much difference from 30 ft away. LOL. But, good catch!

That isnt even a real picture.

Look at the shadows. The shadow goes straight down on the front of the old model, but if you look at the back of the new model, the shadow is well under the vehicle.

I realize this is an old thread but when looking for a new large SUV I am glad I started by looking at 2 year old vehicles. The GM vehicles seemed to really only drop in price by about 20% or so from new while the Wagoneer dropped closer to 50% in value. Kind of scary. I preferred the Wagoneer aside from this as the 8 speed is the same one in my Ram and very reliable. The 5.3L we ended up with is a bit underpowered compared to my Hemi and the Hurricane is a beast compared to both but the Wife loves the Yukon.

Interesting that OP used the word, "dwarfs," when comparing cargo of GM to Jeep. That is the case on paper, but he is able to compare both in real time. It implies that many buyers may not need a large SUV, when they can have the same cargo on an Expedition XL as a Tahoe. The GM is certainly class leading when it comes to cargo, which my family likes. But again just interesting how it's not important to all. Some of the modern 2026 large SUVs have less cargo than a 2011 Enclave/Traverse/Acadia which is amazing.

there isn't one, lights makes you more visible therefore safer, also automatic daytime running generally means the headlights will come on automatically at dusk which is also a safety issue. Every single time I leave the house in the evening I can be you money I will see one or more vehicles with no lights on.
reason being is because on many vehicles the cluster and dash lights are lcd and are naturally backlit, this makes many people assume there exterior lights are on as well.
pretty much nothing more dangerous than driving at night with no lights on.

I curse them everytime, had some close calls before, and WAY-BACK in the 80's had a pizza delivery guy driving with no lights and t-***** him, of course I got screwed because there was no "proof"
