Will this work? stereo upgrade plans

I'll start with what I've got 05 Z71 Tahoe with Bose, and what I want to do with it. I just need to know what I don't already know and if it'll work.

I'm going with a double din alpine dvd head unit. IVE-535HD 6.1 touchscreen (as of now that's my choice of hu)
I'll install it with the gsm-04 adapter because I have the Bose system. I'll also get the steering wheel control adapter and the park brake override thing.

My question with that is will my XM still work? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I know that the xm uses a special wire and the HU says XM ready but I don't know if it plugs in or not

next is that I want to go with the MTX thunderform in the rear left panel but I want to put an Alpine type R 10 in there. (Their newest one is kinda shallow compared to their older ones, I might have to put a 1 inch spacer but that'll work.)
I'm going to run a 1000w JL amp to it. Might turn it down or wire it to a lower ohm and run 500w if it still hits hard and sounds good at only 500w

My question with that is will that thunderform box handle that or will it explode or rattle itself apart? The specs say the airspaces are good. Am I better off just getting a stereo shop make me one instead?

Money is not so much the problem, being without my truck is the issue. I'm kind of working out of it. It can't go to the shop Mon-Fri, maybe I could do a Sat but that's rare. I'll do the amp wiring and head unit myself.

Next is: I want to replace the bose amp and all speakers and tweeters someday. What will still work at that point? I want to keep all stock functionality door chimes, rear seat entertainment etc… once that factory amp goes bye bye does it all still work or does it take a masters in electrical engineering to keep that stuff working?

I appreciate any help and advice you can give me. Sorry about the long read.

The parking break override should be pretty simple. No adapter or anything. It should be grounding a wire, or providing a +12v depending on how the HU wants it.

Highly unlikely the OEM XM unit will work with the Alpine. While the audio is pretty simple to extract from it. It is controlled through the CCDBus and your Alpine would hve no way to communicate with it.

From the Thunderform boxes I've seen there either fiberglass, or molded plastic. So I'm going to say you should be good to go.

The Bose amp in your Z71 is whats called a dumb amp (The LUX amp in the Denali's and Eskey's premium systems are a completely different amimal.). It's basically a five, or six channel amp with speaker level inputs. The tweeters are wired in parallel with the door speakers, but I'm not sure where the splices are at. I'm pretty sure the GMOS04 allows the rear audio controls to function like OEM, and as long as the HU has an AUX input the RSE would be pretty simple to make work.

I forgot to add that I have the factory touchscreen nav 9 speaker Bose system. It seems identical to my friend's 05 denali which is the lux system right?

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the LUX system was only offered in the Denali trim level, and the Caddys. Here is a thread work looking at..

That was a great write up and answered a few things for me. Thank you. Basically I'm going get my head unit in and tune it so it sounds better and I have my bluetooth/Pandora link/USB input (hopefully xm too), install my amp and sub, replace my factory amp for more power and then replace all the mids and highs. I'm not going for competition here but this is the worst sounding factory system I've ever had. I guess that could be because this is the biggest (inside) I've had.

What I'm curious to know is can the non NAV HU control the LUX amp, and or do you have to have the GM scan tool to change settings in the HU to make it work...

You will want to get the parking brake over ride as it is not as easy as just grounding or giving it a 12v+ signal.

I was told I needed a toggle switch by people that have installed something similar. The bypass module is cheap on amazon, I'll go ahead with that. What's another couple of bucks in the scheme of the thousands in going to spend on it this year

What's the max and rms and ohm load coming from the factory amp?
I thought that the bose speakers are 1 ohm and that it's difficult to just replace them unless you bypass or replace the amp. I'm wondering if that's true and actually necessary or if I could just find a quality speaker that would work with the factory amp. I'm going for sound quality here without going overboard with the budget. I'd hate to have to replace all the wiring and go with dynamat and a full interior out install. Not with a 9 year old 90k mile tahoe.

I'm not sure of the ohms of the factory bose speakers, but I do know the tweeters are wired in parallel with the door speakers. It would be easy to use a multi meter to measure them and find out. As far as ohm load the amp you would be safe to increase the ohm load, but not recommended to decrease it. From what I understand by using speakers with a higher ohm rating than the amp calls for just makes them not play as loud, but I don't think you would tell the difference unless you was competing... (I may be totally wrong on this. Someone please correct me if they know more about it...)


Exmple:

OEM speakers are 2 ohm. Ok to replace with 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers. However using 1 ohm speakers could burn up the amp..
