What the heck is this?

Hello, Found this laying loose in the engine bay below the left side hood hinge in my 2003 Yukon. Is looks like some sort of weighted tab cover thingy? Any ideas? Thank you. Zardoz.

Water gets in to the cowling area thru the top vented area and IIRC, that is a flap from the end of the drain channel. Look at the other side, p/s, and see if the other one is there. They are hinged from a thinner rubber spot and eventually they break off. Never understood why they were needed, unless it is to keep crap from getting up in there.

Yes, I remember now, it is to keep rodents out of there. I use a spray rodent deterrent in the cowling vents and under hood.
