Hello,

Proud owner of a 2024 Yukon in Black that I purchased a month ago new. Love the black but recently doing a hand wash noticed some hard water spots. I tried using a polish and wax compound by hand, and it would not get rid of it. I assume it needs a professional paint correction.

Would the dealer be responsible to resolve this? I did purchase it in Florida so I assume it's sat in the sun for a while.

I also had a couple dings that I had a PDR guy repair and they did reimburse me for that part as I was out of state.

I, too, had PDR done on a dent on my door that [I could prove] was there when I purchased the truck (but didn't see until a couple days later), and the dealer paid for that. But unless the water spots are actually in the paint/under the clear coat and not the result of sitting outside in the elements, I'm not sure how (or why) the dealer would accept responsibility for it.

It's obviously worth the ask, but I, personally, wouldn't count on it.

As far as I am concerned, buying something, new..... It better be in a new condition.
On my '05 Yukon, I have a few small... what looks like water spots on my hood. They are permanent. ....
I can bet the spots are from bird crap, that got baked into the paint. They can't be polished out.

In your case, it's the fault of the dealer not spending the money, keeping the paint washed.

get used to it, anything 2015+ has crap gm paint, the paint is thinner and the metal is thinner. I bet you can rub your finger on it and leave a mark. Be very careful as literally anything will scratch or dent it. Black is probably one of the worst offenders

On top of this, GM black paint at least from experience detailing latest model GM vehicles is notorious for being incredibly “soft” so to speak compared to other black paints and will scratch so incredibly easily.

During the early '80's...... Remember all the white paint peeling off, trucks & vans.......
My '88 GMC truck had the clear coat failing, all over the body...... the color coat was already hardened, before the clear was applied.

The white paint, peeling, may have been due to the primer was applied, but the finish coat was sprayed on, way too late.

Yeah i don’t think we can put a specific year model range, color, or model on this issue. Bottom line is GM just sucks at painting their own cars.

Just think of every white express/ GMC savanna that ever existed.. they are all basically just grey blobs (primer) with white glossy spots after a couple of years. Lookin like inverted cows lmao

After you get the spots off, polish and ceramic coat.

Try vinegar. If possible wet a rag and let it sit on the spots a few minutes and then rub out the spots - then polish & wax.

Try to find out what body-paint shop the dealer uses..... Talk to that painter for an assessment. THEN ( with that information) , then go to the service guy at your dealer.
I had a factory paint issue on my '88 GMC. The area had clear coat peeling. The dealer only directed their shop to ONLY, " Clear sand & polish". They did not remove the clear coat peeling and repaint. They finally properly repaired the defect at another GMC dealer.
( Good grief )

Down here is coastal NC a lot of folks have DYI wells for their irrigation system (even though they have county water) and the iron as well as sulfur content is extremely high. If their irrigation system goes off and sprays your car, the high iron content makes it very difficult to remove the water spots. Better to get them taken off sooner then later. After a while, it's near impossible. It seems like if you noticed them right away that the dealer would stand behind their product. Prices for new vehicles are through the roof and for what you pay for a new on, it would be sad if the dealer didn't stand behind it. .:)

There are several effective water spot removal products you can try. Personally, I’ve had great results with Chemical Guys Water Spot Remover—it's impressive and doesn’t strip paint like traditional polishing compounds.

Newer GM paint tends to be quite soft and can develop water spots easily, especially when exposed to direct sunlight. Once you’ve removed the spots, it’s important to add a layer of protection. I’ve found that traditional carnauba-based wax works best for preventing hard water spots. However, its protection doesn’t last long—typically only about a month or two.

Ceramic coating is another option, but in my experience with my black GMC truck, it didn’t provide any better protection against water spots than traditional waxes.

Did you try the clay bar method? Works really good on heavy surface contaminates..
