I bought some 3” C channel to replace the broken crossmember. It took me 2 hours to get the broken one out because so much is connected to it.

The failed piece appears to be 20 gauge steel and weighs 8 pounds. The new piece is 1/8” and weighs 21 pounds. The strength of steel in similar size and shape is roughly linear as it becomes thicker, so a definite upgrade.

The new crossmember is fabbed up, painted and in place. The teardrop is roadworthy again. A few of us are heading to Terlingua Ranch soon.

After traveling to big bend a couple weeks ago, I went through your thread again to see what you did for electrical power

Fun stuff seeing the pictures you've posted and going to Terlingua again soon.

We rented a house across the street from venga. We had a wonderful trip and I can see why you enjoy it there!

I'm still doing research on the addition of a 2nd 100ah battery in the underhood auxiliary spot. Want to power a few items.
