I'm currently in the market for a Tahoe Premier. I'm debating on a new 2018 vs a 2017 with 19k miles.

I can save just over 10k on buying the used 2017 Premier over a new 2018 (or ~17k over a new 2019). While I would definitely prefer a new car, I'm leaning towards the used car simply to save 10k. It has 19k on it, so it has factory warranty until 36k, and the dealership I'm buying it from is one of the few that offers a lifetime power-train warranty (though I have to drive there occasionally - and it's 2 hours away).

With the way these cars depreciate, I really don't think it makes a whole lot of sense to buy NEW, when you can buy ALMOST new for 10k less. I haven't owned a Tahoe since my old 2003 Z71, but I'm told that 20k miles is "just starting to break them in."

Given that the used 2017 is in great condition, is fully loaded (ok, it's missing the HUD which sort of sucks, but it has the digital instrument cluster).. what would YOU do?

If the history and warranty are good, I'm always for letting someone else take the hit on new car depreciation. 19K is nothing when you're saving $10K. A lot of people would say things like "I don't wanna sit in a seat someone else farted on for 19K miles so I buy new". You can shrug that off cuz an extra $10 grand in your wallet will insulate your ass from that seat.

If everything checks out on the 2017, I would buy that one and save the money. After a few months, you will not even feel the difference.

How are you calculating your savings? Is that saving you $10k off MSRP? (which nobody pays anyways.). I stopped buying 1 year old cars when I got good enough at negotiating to get new ones for less.

No - it's $10k off of purchase price (not MSRP).

What is MSRP on the 18 and the selling price.

MSRP on the 18's around here are ~73-76k. Advertised selling price is 61k (can find demos for slightly cheaper at 58-59k). So, it's more like a 14k savings getting the used 2017.

Not sure where you are from, but I just traded in a perfectly good ‘17 Tahoe Premier with 21,000 miles (and it has HUD, lol).

Get the 2017 and don't look back. That's what I did. No regrets. 19k is nothing
