I was at AutoZone earlier browsing around and noticed some new HID 5000K bulbs made from Sylvania. Has anyone heard or seen these before? They were quite interesting with the ballast built into the bulb and everything. They make them for OEM application and according to them are completely legal.

You probably saw D1S bulbs like these: http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-High-Intensity-Discharge-Bulb/dp/B00265FXTA

The box attached to the bottom is the igniter, they still need D1S ballasts. It's just the design of this type of bulb, in other bulb types like D2S the igniter is either part of the ballast on OEM applications and sometimes in a box in the harness between the ballast and bulb in aftermarket slim ballasts.

Btw, these OE bulbs are not interchangeable ... they are specific to the type of projector socket used in the headlamp, the same way that halogen bulbs are specific to the socket in the housing reflectors.

Yeah those are the ones I saw. I knew they wouldn't fit the Hoe...but I hadn't heard of then before and thought they were quite innovative. Thank you for the information. Must be why the amazon reviews I saw, all showed people replacing them on beamers, Lexus, and other stock projector lense vehicles. Just looking into all options available, think I've decided to save up for some projectors to go in my extra set of headlights and test my luck building my own retrofit. And do my first write up on the forum hopefully too and actually help people instead of just asking questions haha.
