Stock exhaust with 3/5 drop

Now I'm assuming that McGaughy's has taken the exhaust into consideration when they were building and engineering the kit. However, I have been wrong before....

Has anyone had problems with the stock exhaust hitting the axle tubes when going that low or did you just cut it after the muffler?

I've got a 3/6 drop and no problems with any hitting on my Corsa.

I have the Mcgaughy's 3/5 and have even gone lower with the kit and still no problems

i got my rear down to 6 inches and it hits the pipe sometimes soo i cut it off after the muffler and added a turndown

Thanks fellas! I was freaking out for a minute or two as I was typing the original post. I think it will all be fine! Our roads in Alabama aren't too bad, so I don't think I'll have any problem with it hitting the piping.

I'm putting a flowmaster on mine tomorrow can't decide if I want to keep the tailpipe or out a turn down how loud is it with the turndown?

Learning from my Toyotas in the past, the closer you get to your muffler, the louder it gets. You may get more drone at highway speeds.

The reason for exhaust piping and smooth bends is for the exhaust gases to slow down before exiting the tailpipe. without the extra length of piping, the exhaust gases are still "wild" coming out of the muffler causing more sound and more drone.

i got LT headers on mine now soo it did change alot more. the difference with headers and stock pipe compared to headers with a turndown is alot louder but i like it..the drone did increase also

I see all I have is a cold air intake so I may see if the shop I'm going to has any nice tips if not I'll probably run turn downs thanks for the help

Go magnaflow man, better flow, more power increase, less interior noise. I used to be a flowmaster guy until my first magnaflow. Haven't turned back since.

id have to agree on this, honestly i like the sound of flowmaster but performance wise i found out the design of flowmasters are chambered which decrese the exhaust flow..magnaflow or other mufflers are straight through design so they flow better i will soon change mine out only for performance purpose

Reason for the flowmaster is I got it off Craigslist for 25 bucks. Just though it was too good of a deal to pass up

Right now I'm just looking for sound if I ever run into some extra money lol I will probably go with a magnaflow

It's getting installed as we speak the muffler shop had a sweet tip I liked will post a pic soon.

Good to hear, man! I'll probably do the same, just because a stock tailpipe looks like a pink elephant when the vehicle is lowered.

I TOTALLY agree with you on the loud exhaust. I had 2 Toyotas with Flowmaster mufflers and I learned that it isn't worth it sometimes. That was with the 3.4L V6 and the 4.0L V6 Toyota motors. I've actually thought about getting a system that is quieter than the stock setup but still having the same, if not more, exhaust output.

If you do want a good exhaust note, One of my best friend's old Tahoe had a sweet exhaust note though. At idle, it sounded like a Cobalt boat idling in the water and then it screamed if you punched it. But, on the highway and through around town it really settled down after the first gear.

I think he used 3 1/2 diameter pipe, Magnaflow High-flow cats, stock muffler delete and triple wall 4" tips. It sounded awesome!

I used a 22X11 2.5" dual in dual out on my 02 silverado with no cats, turned down before the axle. It was extremely quiet at idle and highway speeds, had a noticeable performance difference over the flowmaster I pulled out of it. We took the truck on a 12hr road trip without having to crank the stereo to drown out the exhaust. I was very happy with it. I also had an X-pipe and twin 4" round 14"long setup that I could change from the 22x11. Even the glasspacks were quieter in cab than the flowmaster but screamed at full throttle.

I love the way my truck sounds now at every rpm, especially when I'm at idle. If I ever, which will probably be never, get some extra spending money I would like to put a magnaflow on it to try something different.

That's the name of the game man. Do what makes you happy. I was just never happy with that drone. When I was younger and more obnoxious I certainly didn't give a rats ass about how it sounded in cab. Then I started becoming an old fart and wanted some silence. The burb has yet to get exhaust and might not ever. haha. The GTO on the other hand, I want that one as loud as possible.... its still rockin the flowmasters.
