How can you tell if you need a steering sensor I just purchased a Denali first real drive was last night an the steering wheel felt really loose being that I'm used to driven a sedan I thought was normal then I Cane upon this topi an have second thoughts
Ok...well first and foremost we have steering boxes compared to Rack and Pinion in a car. SO IT WILL NEVER be as tight as a Rack and Pinion.
06xl: You just picked up a used truck. Therefore the parts are used BUT a lil swish in the steering wheel could be from a bad pitman and/or idler arm. I'd check those out first. If not then I suggest the steering sensor.
992dr: Make sure you turn the steering wheel to 9 o'clock so you can use a 15mm socket. Make sure you have a skinny screw driver. When your back facing up th only way to take out the sensor plug is to the right of the driveshaft. I had to manuver the plug to the right by dislodging the sensor first. Manuever the sensor so that the plug would come over the shaft to the right. Its ton easier to remove the green pinin the plug to dislodge the sensor plug.
Thanks foreverfalcon, I replaced it last night. Unfortunately, I have felt no difference. I still have play in my steering.
I'm hoping an alignment along with remounting my tires will help some.
