I know that but what I'm saying is I have the light on and message on my dash and it's not going away

Does the key have a + symbol near the base? If it isn't a chipped key, it won't have this symbol and will not turn off the security system. If it does have the plus, it's very likely the sensor in the ignition switch is faulty, but determining that will require a dealer trip or Tech 2 access.

As for the alarm, once you can get the security thing fixed, spend the $20 for two key fobs on Amazon and have them programmed to the vehicle. Then just use it to unlock and no more alarm when opening the door.

just purchased a 2011 Denali and it has the service theft deterrent system light on the dashboard. the used car lot said they would take care of it but were unable to fix it and if I had someone fix it they will reimburse me for it. only symptoms I have is if I use the key to lock then unlock the door the alarm goes off until I use the key to start it other than that the car works as it should. is this something that deserves a trip to the dealer?

it does have the + symbol but I noticed the keys aren't original. the alarm part isn't an issue. it's just when I first got it they didn't give me the fob
just having the light and message displayed all the time is so annoying

$300 give or take on ebay right now. Make sure it has 33.004 software when you're ready. They pay for themselves quickly, by not getting taken to the cleaners by ignorant or unscrupulous or lazy mechanics.
