Rubber...what are you all rolling?

I'm looking for new rubber.....

I've narrowed it down to 2 choices soo far: either for my stock 17" or going up to 20"'s.

I drive all over the place....mostly highways, and country roads...lots of wet conditions...with some ice and snow... or hot and dry. with about 40K a year!

We have the Michelin LTX tires on our Trailblazer. So far they have been the greatest street radial that I have ever driven on.

As far as what you drive, what about a Nitto Terra Grappler? That tire is great for both the Country roads, Wet Conditions, Street Use, and Very low road noise. It has an good look to it as well.

As for myself, Since I do drive on alot of dirt and muddy country back roads I have the BFG TA KO's. They have a little road noise at high speeds but nothing unbearable. I also use the 4 wheel drive alot on our farm so another reason I got the BFG's.

love 'em and would continue to buy. they work well in all conditions - on highway, not loud; off road, great traction; snow and ice, held perfectly.

I've had the triple treads and they were great. Currently I'm running 22' Nitto Terra-Grapplers. Only drawback is the price of freak sizes.

You should look into Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos. On another forum, a lot of guys that do similar driving to you loved them. Very good road manners and surprisingly good in off road conditions.

These are at the top of my list when i go for new tires.

yeah i have bridgestone duelaer on my stock 17s and i like them.

If I were to replace tires on OEM size wheels I would have gone with Bridgestone for sure. If they made a tire for a 24" I would have probably gone that direction as well. They are great tires, Im getting ready to replace my tires on my Benz and I am going with Bridgestones too.

I do love my Nittos though

my nitto 420s are amazing..no noticable tread wear after 6k miles with bad camber up front, also did just fine in the snow we got while they were still on

I don't have much experience with many street tires, but If you're wanting to run A/T's on a set of 20's or 17's, you have a few more options based on sizes that manufacturers offer, as opposed to 22's or larger from what I've seen out there. I've never run a set of General of Michelin tires on anything I've owned, so I can't comment on performance. Heard good things about Michelins though. I've run Coopers before, but never been impressed with most of their tires, but I hear good comments about the Cooper LTZ, and they are sharp looking. Also a little cheaper than the Nitto Terra Grappler's I'm running, but I like the Nitto's myself. Also agree with the guys who have mentioned the Bridgestones. I've gotten over 40K miles each out of the (2) sets of Bridgestones I've run on my work truck and it spends a lot of time offroad.

I got 73,000 out of my stock Bridgestones. If it was summer I would have waited another 10,000 miles easy. They are a smooth riding tire and took very little weight to balance. My Tahoe is no corner burner nor does it need traction out of the hole so the stockers suit me just fine.

The michelin LTX M/S are great tires and will last a really long time. I have almost 30K on my current set and they are hardly worn. They will last at least 80K if you rotate them right. The new LTX M/S2 is supposed to be even better and last even longer. If your looking for a tire that is a little more agressive but still a great highway tire I would go with the Michelin LTX A/T2.

My thinking is an evolution in process here so bear with me-

I believe I'm going with the stock size 17"...however I still want the performance of 20"+ tire, specificially in the handling(or lack of sway in the tire), so just curious if anyone has used an LT's such as "E load" or "D load" tire on the Tahoe?

I looking very hard at the Michelin LTX M/S2 265/70/17 E load ..... Or the 285/70/17 "D load". How would the extra 20mm of width effect the ride..etc..?

They are going to give you a stiffer ride. I dont know if it will take some sway out of the tire but the sidewalls will be a little stiffer. You may lose some performance though because of the extra weight of the tire. Unless you are towing really heavy loads or driving off road where punctures are an issue an E load is not needed. With a 285 at a full lock at factory ride height you might see a little rubbing. Its hard to say all of these trucks sit a little different some will rub some wont. You are gaining 20mm of width and an inch in height. It is also heavier so it will hurt performance and mileage from the extra weight and more tire on the ground. I hope this helps.
