Random Radio Station Change and Info Screen Changes

Has happened twice now, I’ll be driving along, and uncorrelated to anything, the radio changes presets, and what is in the instrument cluster info screen pages down about 3-4 in the list. Wondering if there is some issue with the steering wheel control module/switches, or the wiring (not exactly sure how steering wheel controls are wired into the system), or could be software issue, Anyone else have this happen?

That’s kinda what it sounds like to me…that it’s sending a false signal to change. Either that or if it’s changing to other presets, maybe the issue is a buggy switch on the steering wheel control on the back of the left side of the steering wheel.

Good to know. Really don't know how to deal w/ this one w/ the dealer...can't film it, cause never know when it is going to happen, and can't reproduce at the dealer...but I fear if we don't report it, they won't get the complaints to GM to figure it out either...

Yeah, we just had our first oil change about 5 weeks ago, I didnt even think of it. It finally happened while both wife and I were in it last week and thats when we realized collectively how many times its happened. First few times I assumed I’d hit a button on the wheel by accident.

Bad news for all you folks, Chevy truck owners (of which I'm one) have been fighting this problem since 2015 and there is no single definitive cure, and the problem is still happening on newest model trucks. I've been researching other forums for a solution myself, in my case the "radio" changes to the bluetooth screen or just starts scrolling through screens from the home screen and also changes the screen on the DIC (Driver Information Center).

Other forums mention bad battery grounds with replacing the ground cable and making sure that cable to frame ground is clean as well as battery connection. If your screen goes blank, it may by a ground issue.

A lot of touch screen replacements that didn't help and a few that did. Some radio replacements that didn't work. Some harness cables in steering column from steering wheel buttons to radio got replaced and seemed to work. A lot of HMI (human mechanical interface) module replacements that didn't work.

There is a known problem and a technical bulletin about the shark fin antenna leaking and corroding the ground that it uses. There has been some indication this may work AS LONG as the dealer also does an HMI software update (older models). Most common indicaton of this is problems with GPS and On-Star problems.

For the Chevy trucks, there appears to be a touch screen module, a radio module and an HMI module, all connected by cables to each other and to the shark fin antenna and push buttons on the steering wheel. No effective way to troubleshoot this problem. Changing the HMI is 15 minutes of true labor, changing the radio if you are brave enough to pop off the bezel is 15 minutes of true labor, don't know about the touch screen replacement but it shouldn't be more than a half hour true labor. Changing and improving the shark fin antenna appears to be a very likely problem and looks to be the most difficult to perform. At a dealership without warranty, it appears that you can spend thousands of dollars and months of frustration and still not solve the problem.

At this point, nobody seems to have an idea about what to do to fix it and GM isn't helping either, and a lot of dealers are making money selling electronics. Good luck.

Hi did you ever find a solution for this issue? I am having the same problem. So aggravating.

They updated my radio software and it seemed to never happen again…I was also mindful to not spin or bump the selector wheel on the front of the steering wheel…hasn’t happened in about 1.5 years

Has anyone found a solution yet? My 2017 Tahoe LT has been doing this for a couple months now. Going to try the Software Calibration, but like y'all, I dont want to take it in to dealer only to be charged up the wahoo for a new unit.

My Tahoe 2017 LT has been doing this for several month, non stop.
Changes stations, puts a phone call on hold, messes with the navigation map, as if a person keeps touching allover the screen.
I went to the dealer twice, they updated the software but it didn't help.
The only way I can stop it by raising the touch screen, so I have a feeling it could be a problem with the touch screen.
