Question and opinion on vehicle cameras

With the weather changing, there were a couple of days where snow/ice built up on the camera and the vehicle dash stated that the front collision detection was disabled/not available because the camera was blocked and to 'clean your windshield' or something along those lines.

I looked at the front facing camera (grill) and it was blocked, I didn't understand the 'clean your windshield' message as I've never seen a camera from that perspective and cleaning the windshield (with the wipers) didn't help/make that warning go away.

I didn't think much of it, but once the weather cleared up, I noticed that there does seem to be a camera at the level of the rearview mirror, but facing forward, of course. This must be the camera the vehicle was referring to and the windshield message makes sense.

However, why am I not able to see that camera when I cycle through the cameras in the vehile?

My follow up question (where I'd like to hear your opinions), do you think the camera perspective is too wide/too far? I see cars right behind me on the mirror, but when looking on the camera it seems as if the vehicle is 20 ft behind me. I realize the wide angle is likely for areas directly behind you/people/better viewing in tight locations/etc, but it seems as if it is just a bit too wide (both front and back). Am I alone here?

Rear view mirror is adjustable, as long as you don’t have a rear license plate frame on. Adjustment is on rear view mirror.

Front camera… there are a few making the image, if there is fog on the windscreen or a camera is clocked it will warn u.. washer only cleans grill lens…

I have a license plate frame and it’s not a hinder to my rear camera adjustments.

that camera in the front window is not for you to view, it is part of the vehicle safety system, like lane assist and collision avoidance, etc

It also controls the automatic high beams and automatic wipers.

I didn't even know there was a camera there, first year with this vehicle with these conditions. Now that I know it is there, I'll make it a point to keep it as clean as I can during snow season. If anything, to help with the light going on/off on the dash when the snow is blocking the camera. The pop up message is annoying. I know you can disable park assist, can you turn off collision avoidance (until the camera can be cleaned if it is blocked)? I'll have to look into that.

If you want a camera in that location to view thats where the FitCamX or Mangoal dashcam system is mounted. I put my FitCamX there its a great view.

the auto wiper/rain sense is a small sensor separate from the main camera
if you look up in there with a good flashlight from the front there is a couple gizmo's packed in there.
And I could be wrong but I think the auto headlight function is built into the headlight assembly
haven't really deep dived into it, but the rain sense is a separate piece
at any rate winter function of these things is going to be intermittent depending on weather, if there is snow on the ground it basically blinds the system in some cases
snow, fog, heavy rain, sleet all affect it, poorly marked roads also affect the features and for me it is how I drive those sensors do not like me lol

I have a 21 I didn’t think there was any difference between 21 and 25 plate mounts.
