Hi all,
A first time poster with an issue on his 03 Tahoe..
This is an intermittent problem (about 1 in 100 starts)
I turn the key and... nothing - no starter noise, no click.. nothing.
The battery is fine as are the connections to it. All other power to the truck works as it should.
One time I moved the shifter to neutral a couple of times and it started; other times I have NOT moved the shifter and after several attempts it started. Sometimes I'll switch back-and-forth between neutral & park and it will not start, but then ultimately it will.
The truck has 140K and I love it (bought it @ 40K). For what it's worth it's a 5.3 flex.

I'm hoping that someone has experienced this issue and could point me in the right direction, please.

Thanks, this looks like a terrific forum.

I've been having this problem for years with my '05 Tahoe. Chevy dealership is unable to reproduce and they offer no advice.
Exactly as mentioned above:

Dealership has replaced battery and replaced the ignition housing in steering column. No luck.

Any suggestions?

It does sound like a neutral safety switch. I haven't had the problem with my vehicle, but working on other brand vehicles and whatnot, I have seen the same issue. It's at least worth a try at $60-80 depending on where you get it.

David did you figure out if it was the neutral safety switch? My wife's 03 Yukon recently started doing this as well. It will start first time 3 or 4 times in a row, then won't even crank over. Lights and radio all come on but that's it. We cycle the key anywhere from 5 to 20+ times and eventually one time it will just fire up again. Frustrating...

I have the same problem and spoke with a mechanic and he told me that if it does it again put in neutral and if it starts then bring it back . He said he can fix it by adjusting the neutral safety switch by aligning and setting certain pounds of pressure on the switch . I am not sure I understood him correctly , but I am headed back to see what he can do.
