My SUV: 2002 Yukon SLT, 4X4, 5.3L flex, tow package.
Four years ago I replaced my entire exhaust system from the stock headers back, with stainless Magnaflow #93419 catalytic converters and #15666 exhaust system (3 inch pipes). This was great for four years. The drone noise was much louder than my stock GM exhast system, but quite acceptable for a performance exhaust system.
This year we bought a 4K lb. travel trailer and the drone noise from the Magnaflow muffler was much louder when pulling the trailer. The trailer weight on the Yukon causes more frequent downshifts on even the shortest uphill slopes on the highway causing the drone noise to become almost unbearable in the cab.
The Magnaflow muffler is 22" long and center holes at both ends for straight-through pipes. The Walker Quite Flow muffler #21054 is 24" long, an off-set hole (inlet side) and center hole (outlet side). No problem for the muffler shop, they cut and welded it right up and fits perfect.
It was the right decision to reduce (not eliminate) much of Magnaflow's drone noise at the muffler when towing. I can hear myself think again.
