Can't help out, but when I lived on Galveston I had the hardest time finding a good mechanic for an R50 Nissan Pathfinder (fairly basic, analog SUV). All the shops had abysmal reviews... they knew you were on an island and stuck with whatever service they provided.
I took my Saab all the way up to Viking Motors in Houston to have any work done on it. The shops on the island thought the car was made on Mars. I ended up doing most of the work anyways (cooling system, gaskets, suspension), but went up to the specialist for anything Tech2 related. I got a screaming deal on that car, but it needed some love that the previous owner neglected.
I never once found anyone worth a plug nickel to work on my BMW... they all said they had no way to deal with its V8. Ended up selling that car before the timing chain guides needed to be replaced, but always missed it.
