I just traded my 15 Tahoe for a newer 21 LT. Really like it so far, and hope this is as reliable as the old one. Anyway, I am looking at installing an LED light strip across the rear tail lift gate, near the bottom. I have had these some time ago, but never on a lift gate. Is the wiring going to be difficult? Would most likely have to run the wires from bottom of lift gate up into the top rear of the car, then down the rear side pillar to the tail light wiring... it almost sounds like too much work!!! Then, would it connect via the trailer wiring connector, the brochure says it does. I am looking at this on ebay.

If you are doing this for 'looks', then it is what it is, and it could be a bit of work to complete.

If you are doing this for functionality, like increased backup lights visibility, then under the bumper is a simpler installation.

Foe what purpose?

Probably brake and turn signal; maybe running lights but I'm not sure if that's legal -- not my worry. Reverse would need to be wired separately if the LED strip does those; a 4-pin connector doesn't have a pin for backup lights unless one of the other functions mentioned is not wired.

I would NOT do it. All you will do is make the driver behind you mad at you. When it's time to remove them, there's a chance it will take some of the paint with it. They're completely unnecessary, and make the car look ghetto.

Wait -- the OP wants to somehow attach these TO the lift gate itself? Not inboard of the actual lift gate where it would just shine out from the space between the bottom edge and the top of the bumper? Hmmm... Yeah, not good.

Something like this would be a lot cooler if you're going for this kind of look.

OK, all good posts and opinions. I decided to upgrade the backup and turn signal on the rear of the car.
So far working OK, with only a check backup light each time I reverse.
