On my 97 hoe, when I'm im any gear besides park, there is a humming noise.
I don't think it's the engine, and my dad says that some gears in the tranny have some chipped teeth. It hasn't really effected it, it seems. Still goes over 320 miles a tank.
Thing is, I'm afraid it's screwing up the points it shifts at. Seems like a slow shift from first to second, but maybe that's just how these things were.
Ideas on what it might be other than the problem above, or is the idea actually something that could happen?

what do you mean by slow shift?
does it just shift at a high rpm or is there a noticable delay between gears

Shifting at higher RPMs. I've noticed the same kinda behaviour from my grandma's 03, so it's probably normal. I think I worry too much about my truck, haha

is it engine or vehicle speed dependent?

Tempted to say it's engine dependent. Louder and more high pitched as you go faster, but once you get about sixty it dulls out and you can't hear it over the road noises

Then that sounds more like a converter or pump issue. BTW how does dad know it has broken teeth?

If I'm honest I have no clue how he got that conclusion. Maybe he's messed with it in the past, since this has been around for years.

Thanks for the help though! Know why you're the OBS god, haha
