Hey guys,
So my rig has had this high pitched ringing sound coming from it for about a year now. I was informed that it was a sign of my fuel pump about to go bad, however it's been a year and it still hasn't. It gets especially loud when I get low on fuel but has also been getting louder in general over time. What does this all mean?? Do I need to replace it now? Any advice would be nice. Thanks guys!

I had the same problem when I bought my 01 yuk last year. Took it in to my mechanic and he told me the same thing. Fuel pump is going bad. Get it replaced before it goes out and you have to have it towed. You're looking at $500-$600. Also, you don't want to let your tank get to the point where the low fuel light comes on as this will cause the pump to go out faster. Hope this helps.

my fuel pump has made that noise ever since i got it 3 years ago, i was told some just do that, but getting it fixed would fix the problem but its just a noise i have to ignore sometimes, but its nothing to panic about

Thanks guys.. I'm glad to hear it's nothing super urgent. I'll definitely avoid running it low now

Is your CES on? Mine was on when the fuel pump was making that noise, which was a sign that it was going out. If your CES is not on then I guess you're okay. If it is on, then I wouldn't continue to drive it like that for long.

I personally would not drive it like this for to long then. My CES was on and that prompted me to get the code to track it down. I was told it could be a number of things relating to the fuel filter, pump etc. I was told to start with the fuel filter first as that was the cheapest thing. I put that on myself and was told not to clear the code. Drive it 50-100 miles and if it was the filter it will reset itself. It didn't reset so took it in again and the pressure that the fuel pump was putting out was lower than what it should be. I was told I could drive it but to not get on the accelerator and drive the speed limit until I could afford to get it replaced which was about 2 weeks. Got the pump replaced and the CES reset itself. Just be gentle while driving and you should be able to get a couple of weeks out of it but i would get it replaced ASAP.

Forgot to add that yes the pump does make a little high pitch sound, but if the CES light is on, then that is a sign the there is a problem.
