i went to close it and bam!! barely missed my face when it bounced back up. Don't know what happened. Is it just stuck or?? I was only out there around 10 minutes since its pouring rain. The black part won't come down.

Did you figure it out? Looks like the latch is already in the locked position. Might want to push the button then pull it out to unlatch it.

I agree with the others. I would spray some WD40 on it to get any rust and particles out of there, let it dry, and follow it up with a light coat of silicone spray to keep it lubed.

I took apart the back panel. Filled it with 6 cubic feet of foam. Removed the motor because I wanted the windshield wiper on the outside so I wouldn't have to change looks and tinkered with that latch. It's fun to mess with. The mechanics to it are simple once you have access to them. Fairly simple to remove the back panel. Ask questions if you need help. :) Mine did that too. Just push the button. lol
