Looking to get 2010 LT 5.3 236k Tahoe engine rebuild done in the Southern NJ/PA area. If anyone has a place to recommend or stay away from, I’m all ears. Would it be easier/better to just get a replacement engine and call it a day. The shop that diagnosed my compression problem was a chain Meineke and didn’t want them opening the engine to diagnose further. So not sure what’s causing low pressure in a couple of cylinders. No CEL but the power is lacking. Transmission seems ok. Going to do some research on my own but if somebody has 1st hand experience let your voice be heard.

BESIDES the low compression in a couple of cylinders, are there any other symptoms / problems?
Have you tried top end cleaner (like BG44K which may have a GM part number; or Chevron w/ Techron Fuel System Cleaner @ 2x strength)?
Could swear there's a GM Tech Service Bulletin that involves pouring a solution into the cylinders and leaving it for 2.50-3.00 hours - BUT NOT OVER 3.00 HOURS ...
Somehow I think cleaning the coking off the piston rings is easier/better than getting a replacement engine - assuming I'm right about your rings ...

Or it could be your valves / valve seals? I know lots of shops charge too much for head work ...

Then again, doesn't hurt to go looking for / saving up for a replacement engine in the meantime ...

It was taken into the shop to determine a loss of power, hesitation. Spark plugs didn’t help much so they dug a little deeper and determined there was a loss of compression in multiple cylinders. Didn’t trust the Meineke to open it up so I have an appointment to get a 2nd opinion at a shop that’s recommended for engine work. I’ll mention soaking the cylinders and try to run some BG44K through it until my appt on Tuesday. Thanks.
