During cold start, auto trans sounds like it bangs out of gear???

During cold start, auto trans sounds like it bangs out of gear or a clutch pack or band releases??? This is freaking me out. The truck will jerk a bit too. Only happens once in a great while but still unnerving. Truck runs and drives fine other wise. Whenever I park I always put it into park and set parking brake. Could it be the torque converter or the TC clutch?

Fluid level ok? Also are you holding the brake while setting the parking brake?

Fluid level fine. Yes I hold the brake, throw it in neutral, set the parking brake and take the load of the vehicle drive train, then put it into park and turn off.

I'm curious if it does it if you cold start in neutral?

Jerk truck... never had that but ive had jerk chicken...

Never started it in neutral cold or hot.
