Dumb Question...

Only has one Key now, but i want/need 1-2 additional keys.

doesn;t seem like it is any special key (no obvious chips like the 90s trucks, is the rubber handle concealing something?), so do I have to go dealer to get a key coded and cut?


Thanks, I haven't been able to find anything concrete, and I'm not sure I'm not currently using a valet key and disarming with the factory remote either...
I'm a NooB to these modern GMs.

nothing special. Dealers will charge and arm and a leg, just for the rubber GM piece. But other than that, same thing.

thank you. I hope I can get a couple of $2 keys at walmart then. One for the key rack at home and one for the wife's key ring.

Yep, I have the keys for my Denali cut at Wal-Mart too

do not go to walmart, go to the dealer

walmart will cut your current already worn down key that will not be factory accurate

the dealer will cut it from your vin... which will be a brand new key

i only paid $10 for the dealer to cut me a key from vin... very reasonable IMO.

I finally found an explanation of passlock II... ie it moved passlock from the key to the key CYLINDER, thus allowing standard keys to be used again.
