Component speaker tweeter location in doors? w/pics

I am upgrading my speakers in my front and rear doors. I would like to go with component style speakers so I can get the tweeters away from the floor and in a better location. Have any of you ran components in your doors and if you did where did you put your tweeter?

I would like to keep the stock tweeter in the front door in its stock location and just upgrade it at some point too. I am just trying to figure out where might be a good location for the other 4 tweeters I will have when I switch to components.

I have included some pics below of possible locations for the tweeters in the doors. I would have to cut holes to mount these and that is ok if it looks decent. It may not even be feasable to mount these where I am pointing out because I have not looked to see if there is an obstruction behind those areas.

Also,, the material on the doors is that semi squishy padded vinyl stuff where I would have to make holes. Any of you cut into that stuff with good results?

Same here.....I like the stock place on the front doors. The places your thinking about putting it in are within inches of the stock location.

when you do the tweeters in the front in the stock location, youll have to make buckets for them out of wood or something. hardly any of them just work for ya..

depends on tweeter too, some are 13mm, some are 22mm, and some are 25mm.

i wouldn't do that on the rear doors you want hear them.

just put some good coaxials in the rear doors. i know my kenwood

tweets fit in the stock front door i took the stock tweets out

and used my hot glue gun to angle the tweets better

In my Astro I had them mounted at the top of the door where the backing for the mirror was. In the burb I have the bose system and they have placed the tweeters on the front window pillars facing the front window just above the dash. Man what great sound.

the only place id put tweets other than the stock location is the A-pillar. I hate randomly placed tweeters.

Thank-you for the replies. What you have all said makes sense.

On the rear doors I was trying to get the tweeters off the floor where they would be firing at your feet if I used coax speakers. I am interested in getting them pointed in a more upper frontal location. Unfortunately I see that the rear door tweeters if mounted like in my pic will be firing at the back of the front seats. I need to think further about the placement as it seems.

On the front doors I want to keep a set of tweeters in the OEM location and also mount another set somewhere els. The location on the front doors is actually not a bad location because the tweets fire right toward the occupants in the front seats. I agree with you TahoeGoBoom,, I also do not like randomly placed tweeters and I dislike tweeters that are not somewhat flush mounted and do not fit in to their surroundings. I like everything to blend when at all possible and conceal that they are there for the most part. Imaging is part of my musical preference for all occupants in my vehicle front and back.

TahoeGoBoom,,, you are the one who makes those pods for the back right? I have seen pictures of your work with those and I like the result. I actually sent you a PM recently at "the other site" but that site has gone down as it seems. Can you guide me towards what you consider to be the best option in regards to your pods? What is better sounding and such,, a single pair of 6x9's or twin pairs of 6.5's? I am looking for good imaging and fill but I also like to use the potential of said speakers for bass response as much as is practical. I have heard some mean sets of 6x9's that people when hearing those 6x9's could not accept the bass output and such and this is why I am asking for your input. You can respond to me here or PM if you would like. I am looking forward to hearing about what sounds best in the back of our hoes in regards to these pods.

just a word of warning about 4 tweeters in the front. I have 2 tweeters on my a pillers and two tweeters with the woofers. I get treble fatigued quite easily and have unhooked the a piller tweeters. Just do one or the other IMO.

most tweeters will come with angle pods that work great for em.

dude just put some velcro on the tweeters and put them in different places until u get the best sound. usually its closer to the mid speaker
