Immediately before 1st to 2nd shift, there is a distinct "click" which I can hear and feel through the gas pedal. Only seems to happen when cold. Any ideas?

@NickTransmissions could provide some perspective.

Can you add some more details? What transmission? Mileage? Any associated mods? Time between the click and the next gear engage?

2013 model year will be the 6L80.
Definitely a question for Nick.
The only thing that comes to mind for me is if you can feel it through the gas pedal, that's a pretty stout click. I would bet if you were under the car it sounds a lot louder than a click.

The transmission bench
Any clicking, rattling, grinding or other unusual sounds coming from inside the transmission indicate some sort of hard part failure (either pending/in-progress or already happened)...Since the transmission is still functioning, I'd venture to guess your front planet/sun gear may be coming apart and the clicking you're hearing are the needle bearings in one or more of the pinion gears in the front planetary assembly. If I'm correct, the transmission needs to come out for overhaul. If it progresses, you'll lose all forward and reverse movement.

It may be helpful to try to get underneath w/the engine running (Wheels chocked, trans in park) w/a mechanic's stethoscope to see if you can isolate the source of the noise and confirm/deny it's coming from the transmission and/or torque converter. The next step beyond that would be to drop the pan and see if there's any kibbles and bits in the pan bottom.

I would park it until you can determine the source of the noise and fix it or at least rule in our out the transmission or other major sub-systems.
