Some 45% to 54% of the world's semiconductor-grade neon, critical for the lasers used to make chips, comes from two Ukrainian companies, Ingas and Cryoin, according to Reuters calculations based on figures from the companies and market research firm Techcet.
Cryoin, which produced roughly 10,000 to 15,000 cubic meters of neon per month, and is located in Odessa, halted operations on Feb. 24 when the invasion began to keep employees safe, according to business development director Larissa Bondarenko.
Companies elsewhere could initiate neon production but it would take nine months to two years to ramp up, according to Richard Barnett, chief marketing officer of Supplyframe, which provides market intelligence to companies across the global electronics sectors.

Brought this up months ago. Not only neon, but palladium which Russia is 45% of the worlds source. this problem is not only bad, but is slated to get much worse. Chips will be allocated by the chip makers ….not by automakers. Much more critical systems will get higher priority over the needed chips such as cell phones, medical, and aerospace and defense. Sorry but cars and Xbox‘s aren’t as important…..

looks like a opportunity for china, they make about 30% of the neon gas currently and the price went up 9x since Feb.

Not getting chips to power tech on high end cars might become the least of humanity's problems if this shit in Ukraine keeps escalating and more countries get involved. Food prices are soaring, gas and energy prices are soaring, lumber and metal prices are soaring, crime rates are soaring. Most of that was already in the works here in the USA but things are only going to get worse. I already have junkies knocking on my door asking if I can spare any gas and I had 60 gallons syphoned out of my gas powered chevy kodiak that's parked around the backside of one of our barns. Cut off garden hose laying next to the truck and bone dry gas tank...

put a sign on it saying ethanol only E100 they will not touch it, also put out decoy gas cans filled up sodium silicate mixed with gas ,

this will PERMANENTLY fix their engine with the engine block repair.. they will not come back after their engine has been PERMANENTLY repaired with BARS engine head gasket repair

this will foul the , injectors , spark plugs , o2 sensors and catalytic converter poisoning, clog the fuel line(s)

it will also score the cylinder walls and cake up the valves....
their car will be totaled..

The "funny" part about my situation is I put a bright red GASOLINE sticker on the fuel tank so somebody wouldn't accidentally put diesel into this truck because it's the only one out of 8 flatbeds we own that isn't diesel...should've known better

I grew up on a dairy farm, you must have a solid 12g, 30-30 or 45-70 around. The engine sabotage means they come back at a time of their choosing. I would not go that route.

let me clarify, the sound, in the dark, of a shotgun or lever action tends to get peoples attention in my experience. I have been in situations where “good guys” froze at the rack of an 870.
